No gas engine discussion allowed except on transmissions and drivetrain that pertain to all models. Please confine discussion of topics in this forum to those items that are specific to the 6.4L Power Stroke engine.
I picked up Ford 2008 Preview Guide of the New Superduties and it lists the HP and Torque seperate for the F450 at the ratings above. This was picked up from a California Dealer. Anyone know if this is true across the country.
I am looking at the Ford Brochure and it says 325 HP and 600 Torque for the F450 Only. You are right. No V10.. Max Towing on 5th Wheel is 24,500 and regular trailer is 16,000. That is with the 4.88 axle.
I'm logged onto the Ford Motor Company web site right now. They show 350HP and 650lb-ft of torque for the new diesel. They also show the V-10 rated at 362HP and 457lb-ft of torque.

I have been in the same site. This brochure is not avialiable to the general public at this time. I have bought 15 Ford Trucks from this dealer over the last 25 years, and as such he gave me one of these. Only those who have an excellent relationship with their dealer will see this.
Max Torque is at 2000 RPM on both versions of the 6.4 in this brochure.
I'm sure that book says it is correct as of publication date subject to change without notice.
The Ford powerstroke tour guys I talked to today at OKC AQHA world show say 350/650.

Interesting on the 325/600 for the F-450 (if true). DC detuned the 6.7 Cummins in the C/C for 305/610.

Because 350 hp isn't necessary to pull that much weight. It's only necessary to the pickup crowd, who want bragging rights. Your average F450 purchaser values the longevity that comes with reducing the power output.

I agree there. But if they "detune" these motors for lower horsepower for commercial use etc I would like to see the 600 ft lbs created at 1500 rpm rather than 2000. I think International does that to the VT365 and did it to thier old 7.3. I think the old 7.3 was rated at 660 ft lbs at 1400 rpm. That would be cool I don't have a problem with the 81 mph just want more torque where it belongs in something attended to work heavy and pull.

also the gears and therefore final drive ratio will be different. max speed 81mph tells me that it requires less torque from the engine because of the deeper gears
I guess if meeting the competition is desried then all they have to do is meet/exceed the GM 300hp/520 tq or 300 HP/605 TQ Duramax choices.
The question I have is if this is the same exact engine with detuned software or is it a higher torque with lower compression ratio more like what IH does with the VT365 and T444E versions of the previous Pstrokes.
My guess is software only.

With 4.88 gears that truck would need about 3 or 4 overdrives to get it in the 1500 rpm sweet spot while cruising down the interstate at 65-70 mph. (Or maybe 40-44" tires, which would be unsafe!)
