Has anyone actually improved thier fuel mileage in 2008 F450 by either installing a Gear Vendor, swapping the diffs (4:88's for ???), or something else?
I love my truck, but not the RPM's it turns on the freeway.
OK. So the "should've" aside, will a truck that came with 4:88's see an improvement of 2 mpg by installing 4:33's?
Or is there perhaps some other difference that would mask the impact of just changing the ring & pinions? (I'm can't think of anything, but you never know...)
You should have ordered the 4.30's. You'd be getting about 2 mpg more on the highway. LS
I don't get any better mileage than the guys with the 4.88. In fact, it seems the 4.88's are getting better mileage towing. I have been watching what people post about mileage on the F-450.

I've got the 4.30's and combined mileage according to the trip computer stays around 11mpg. I can get around 12 during interstate driving if I keep my speed around 65mph. Love the truck, in fact the truck would be almost perfect if the mileage could be better.

That is if 4:30's were offered when I got the rig...
BUT I am getting almost the exact same MPG as JESSE 1 running the 4:88's, so it does not seen to be making much of a difference

I have come to the conclusion that 4.30's allows you to drive 65mph, while the 4.88 450 drives 60mph, and they each get app. the same fuel mileage.
4.30=65mph
4.88=60mph
Since I got the 4.88s, I am driving in the right lane. Problem is, I am holding up both lanes of traffic, due to the Dodge boys and Chevy/GM guys slowing to gawk at the beautiful beast.

If you're complaining about rpms, economy & speed, "should've" becomes shouldn't have. Why did you buy the truck if you are sweating the load over economy? If you NEED the truck, that's one thing and you takes what you get for economy and pass the cost of operation along.
If its for recreation, than it becomes part of the cost of recreation, and thats just how it is.

very very true OMC.....but did we forget the numbers on the window sticker indicating fuel economy...ooooh i forgot there isnt any. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT RATED FOR FUEL ECONOMY......which means "thats just how it is", OMC
One gentlemen make a comparison of 4.30 vs. 4.88. at 60 and 65 MPH. The 6.4 produces about 90% of it's torque curve at about 2,200 RPM or 4.88's at 60 MPH. The better mileage is at that RPM. reducing the RPM would have quite a negative affect on mileage and tow performance
