6.4L Power Stroke Engine and DrivetrainDiscussion of the 6.4L Power Stroke diesel engine and drivetrain in the 2008-Up Super Duty trucks. No gas engine discussion allowed except on transmissions and drivetrain that pertain to all models. Please confine discussion of topics in this forum to those items that are specific to the 6.4L Power Stroke engine.
Early power figures on the 6.4L have stated 350 HP & 650 lb-ft of torque. How many think it will be higher and that is just a ploy to keep the competition guessing? I believe it is just a beacon to give us an idea, but Ford always likes higher numbers, and the new Dmax is 350/650, I'm guessing they will surpass those.

I think jas10 is close. i recently heard that all manufacturers are trying to work towards tuning down the stock numbers. Dodge for sure said the (07/5.9) was going to be tuned down approx. 10% from the (06/5.9). so i wouldn't be surprised if the 6.4 is under the 350/650 number.

It seems like a waste for the engine to put out 350/650 and barely get 15mpg empty. I don't really personally care about mileage on my truck but it's a waste to have so much power instead of 20+ mpg. I hope Ford goes for a super tough, medium output, high mpg diesel.

The Duramax is 360hp and 650 torque. Let me tell you, a friend has one and it just cooks.
I just hope ford and international can get their stuff together on this engine. I'm sure they know what is at stake so I doubt this will be a 6.0 all over again. I'm hoping for numbers similar to the lbz.

I can guaranty the 6.4 will not be over 350/650. Alright, maybe match the Duramax at 360/650. That's the best we could hope to see. Gentlemen, the numbers war is over, for now anyway. Ford is likely to try to match the Duramax numbers, but I would really doubt it since we see everyone else backing off. I wouldn't even be surprised to see the Duramax back off some. I wish they would all forget about making the biggest numbers and just make a bulletproof engine. That would take any manufacturer the king of the hill, IMHO.

The increased engine sizes from International and Cummins are due to looming NOx regulations for 2010. Increased use of high EGR rates plus higher backpressure from additional catalytic exhaust components will cause reduced Specific power and torque [ie hp and ft-lbs per liter.] The new engines' increased displacements will simply compensate for that in 2010; in the meantime they will offer higher output.
FYI every diesel pickup in 2007 will have a particulate filter in the exhaust - these add more backpressure than the existing catalysts.
