25000 mile report

I am taking my F350 in tomorrow for the 25k service. My milage still pretty much hangs out at around 12-13mpg, 7-9 mpg pulling a 35 ft goose neck in Texas. I have not had any break downs or problems. I do have the ticking sound at start up, it seems to be worse when it is really cold. I have a sound coming from the passenger side front that sounds like a door slamming shut under a vacuum, anyone else hearing this? I am currently running a Bull Pup tuner that can get around 14mpg on the highway if I can set the cruise at 70. I have pretty much conceded to the fact that Ford is not going to run to the rescue of the brave souls that bought the truck thinking we would get high teen's in mpg. All in all I like the truck, it runs great, & has the power, although there are still times when I pull up next to a 7.3 & hear it idling that I really wish I had my 2000 back with it's 4" banks & other goodies, & oh yea 16-17 mpg!...oh well, someone else is enjoing it now.

Just thought.....

That I would chime in.
Except for the commerical guys, your post has been the highest miles that I have seen so far.
Good for you, and good for Ford for making this rig run right.
Hick-ups along the way granted. These things happen. It is a newer motor. (but not that new)
I am not a D-max or Dodge basher by any sense of the word. Both are IMHO really good rigs.
I think all of the "Big 3" make a decesion on what us folks want in a truck and then build it from there.
Come what may, we bought these vehicles with a specific purpose in mind.
Anyone out there want to add to the milage totals?
~Mike~

Banging noise

I can help you on the Banging noise. I had it in my 02 and it took forever to figure it out and get it to do it in front of a tech. There is a flap inside the heating AC system that when the truck sits will open. when the system is running it will close making a noise. It will not always do it but it will making a dull thump noise on the passenger side shortly after you start the truck.

dgscoinc: My truck is a F350 SRW and a 3.73 rear end with 90 miles on it, just wondering what I should get for mileage. Does your truck have SRW and a 3.73 rear end?

Note: I have the same birth date, just 10 years earlier (1956).

I have 14,894 miles on mine. Running great she is! No issues. Completed multiple oil changes, changed the fuel filters, and other basic maintenance. It is cold up here, and I have been averaging 14.5 mpg for a tank. I am trying really hard not go over 65 mph, but some MN people can not drive! I am hoping that in the spring I jump to 16 mpg, which is where I was around the fall.

Have any of you guys purchased an extended warrany...thinking about it but not sure if its worth it. Also, they seem to be increasing the warranty coverage. Your thoughts?

I have about 23,000 miles. The first 15,000 miles were horible. (2) radiators, (1) transmision, and numerous visits to the dealer for computer updates.
The last visit was at 15,000 miles and the truck has been running wonderful since. I was getting 14.4 MPG as an average until I started using Ford's cetane additive. Now I get 15.3 as an average.

Hey, I got that door slamming shut sound coming out from under the hood, too. It sounds just like a vacuum operated door in the HVAC system closing. Could it be? Don't have the clicking sound some are reporting.

I have 27,500 miles on mine, and knock on wood no problems, except for the white smoke at the start of regen. I have been getting around 13 mpg city/highway driving. When I pull my 14K 5th wheel, I get around 8 or 9 mpg.

I have 28,000 miles on the truck. It is in for a radiator replacement at this time. Otherwise has been a great truck. Mileage is 14 to 15 with quite a bit of time in traffic. It is a March 07 build F250 4x4 crew cab 6.4L.

I have 29,500 on my job 1 F250. No problems yet, just a few PCM updates. I get MAYBE 12-13 mpg if I baby it. Regen/Towing both equal around 9-10 mpg.

Fuel Economy

Has anyone looked into these Econo chips? I have heard that they improve milage but I don't know if they are bad for the truck. I caught wind of it yesterday and didn't know if they were worth while.

Thanks

I have a little over 15,000 on mine without one problem. I have had the oil changed 3 times and the fuel filters just the other day changed. Mileage is similar to everyone else here including when pulling my TH. I have stated the same since I bought this truck, I love it, I love the power, I love how it looks! I pulled my TH home yesterday and at the CG where we keep it, I have to pull it through a sloped grass area to get from the pad to the road. It was a little soft and I was worried I might start spinning or even worse get stuck. I hooked up, put it in 4 High and torqued the TH right out. I had so much torque, I never had to get in the throttle enough to spin the back tires. Awesome! Getting ready to take it on a 1200+ mile road trip with the 14,000 pound Raptor hooked up so looking forward to it!!!
