4x4

Hey all, I have a 2008 f350. Besides obvious answers like make sure you are in 4x4 before getting stuck does any one have any other suggestions on how to get it into 4 wheel drive after you are stuck and not realzing you may need it. If I cant move and put it in 4x4 then try to go the tires spin and I get one heck of a clunk when the 4x4 bangs in. Other wise if I can put it in 4x4 before I get stuck there are no problems or noises just when I get stuck, this isnt my first truck that has done this, just curious if someone has a trick for the ford, thanks.

I only have manual locking hubs. Never have had that problem. Be careful if your hubs are in auto lock or have just plain auto locking hubs. When you are stuck and throw it into 4x4 ease on the throttle until you hear or feel the front hubs lock in and the front tires grab. A friend of mine didn't and all the hubs did was make a loud bang. That was it he had snapped the auto locks. He had the dealer replace them with manual locking hubs under warranty. This was on a 97 f-250.
