6.4 with 250,000 miles. Too many?

I own a 7.3 diesel truck, great truck and A dodge that I cant wait to drive off a cliff. I am looking at a 2008 6.4 4x4 super cab long bed in perfect shape and for a great price of $19,900 but it has 250,000 miles on it. I am worried about how many miles but I would have to think it has to be almost all highway miles.

Do you think 250,000 is to many miles for the year and price? my 7.3 has 265,000 and it the best vehicle i have ever owned and drive like new for the most part. But with a new motor size I don't no. Opinions?

I haven't heard of many 6.4's with that kind of mileage yet. However, they have only been out since 2008, so thats not very long. Maybe the engine in the truck is fairly new, try and get an Oasis report ran on the truck. It will tell you it's dealer service history, and past problems.

You can post the Vin # of the truck on here, and someone might run it for you. Or you can also call a dealer and they can run it for you too.

I have heard of several over the 150K mark and running strong but I think this is the first with over 200K.

My only issue with this is going to be the front end. Were the ball joints checked replace, hubs, those kind of things. They do wear out.

Of course I would try to determine eng hours and history of the motor as well.

I found an 06 today with the 6.0 motor with 45,000 miles for $21,900 I am worried as hell about the 6.0 motor tho. As far as the hours if it has 250,000 in 2 yrs I am thinking it never turned off lol

08 trucks with the 6.4 actually were available in early 2007. I have seen more than a few trucks with 200,000 miles. One on cars.com with over 300k. Almost $20k for a truck with 250k miles seems a bit much. The Oasis will tell you only what's happened in the past 6 months or so. Have the dealer open the oasis report which gives them access to the warranty history of the truck. Much more info. Personally I would spend maybe a couple thousand more and get a truck with under 100k miles!

IMHO I'd pass with a 2-3yr old truck with 250,000 miles on it, I don't care if it is all highway

Yeah thats why I took another one for a drive today but it is a 6.0 and that motor worries me. its an 06 so I guess it is better than an 03 or 04 from what I here.

Honestly when they(Ford) went to the 6.0L and retired the 7.3L Ford has gone down the toilet in the diesel dept. and all the new emissions junk, extra tank for some additive, and regen stuff,etc.. Sounds like too much of a pain in the arsh for a new truck. I'll keep my 7.3L

I sold mine to my dad for cheep, he's done enough for me plus if I need it its there to be used. but I bought a dodge (***?!?!) yeah I no, bad move but I got into plowing and needed the 4x4 and it was ready. the 7.3 was the best vehicle I have ever had and I have had a lot.

anyone who has a 7.3 knows what they have, don't believe me try to get a price on one. $16,000 for a good 10 year old truck with 180,000 or more.

Atleast you kept it in the family, and "yes" I keep hearing people say that the 7.3L are actually increasing in value because of the 6.0,6.4,and now the 6.7L just not doing well. I'd like to see Ford turn around the diesel division, but maybe in 8-10yrs they will have another bullet proof diesel when I'm ready to replace my 7.3L

Like the man said 20 k for that truck is way too much. Shop around and you'll find one with much lower mileage. Lot's of them for sale.

6.7 not doing well, eh? News to me and everyone else who bought them. If by not doing well you mean setting sales records, than yes, you are right. And contrary to what you might believe, 8 year old trucks do not increase in value as they get older. Stabalize in value, maybe, but my 2001 7.3 wasn't worth more in 2010 than it was in 2009. These are pick-up trucks where hundreds of thousands were made, not 1968 GT500KRs. As for the original poster, I personally think 250K is a lot of miles for a 3 year old truck. That is 80K miles a year, a TON of driving. There are plenty out there of any motor you want with a fraction of the miles. Unless that thing was a crazy smoking deal, I would keep looking. Good luck in your search!

It is true about the 7.3's. Ford had all the problems with the 6.0's and the 7.3's are now $2000 to $3000 more for the same truck and holding that price, I have been looking for one since I sold my old one and they have gone up in price, maybe not justifiable but they are getting the higher price. Most of them even state is sales adds about how much more reliable the 7.3's are and that they are getting hard to find. My problem, as I would buy another 7.3 in a split second and not even blink is that you cannot finance them and I don't have $12,000 to $15,000 laying around. Before I bought my house maybe but not any more.

If anyone knows how I can finance a 7.3 let me no
