6.4 oil pans

Do you still have to pull the motor to replace/remove the oil pan? (like on the 7.3L)

Re: 6.4 oil pans

You don't need to pull the motor to remove the oil pan on a 6.0, 6.4 or 7.3.

Re: 6.4 oil pans

How do you do it on the 7.3 because i know two guys with rotten pans that had to have engines pulled to replace pan.

Re: 6.4 oil pans

It's my understanding that pulling the motor is the Ford 'prescribed' way and what the dealer does. Other guys have loosened motor mounts enough to 'slightly' lift motor and gain access to pull the pan. Never faced the issue on my 7.3 but the necessity seemed idiotic- obviously. Don't know about the 6.0's.

I'll slide under my new 6.4 and take a look.

Re: 6.4 oil pans

6.0 and 6.4 lower oil pans can be removed with the engine still in the vehicle. It is not a huge job, not even close to the 7.3. If I remember correctly warranty times for an F-series 6.0 lower oil pan is somewhere around 2 hours of labor. To properly reseal and oil pan on a 7.3 the engine needs to be removed though. I've seen people do it with the engine installed and those vehicles kept comming back until someone removed the engine and did it right.
