Any suggestions because I am demanding a new motor? Damn I wish this was the 7.3!!
Well my truck is still at the dealership but the Ford reps authorized the replacement of the complete motor and it arrived at the dealership yesterday. The motor broke a crank shaft and even the mechanics I spoke with there couldn't believe it.

Next time look at a 6.8 V-10; the most reliable engine Ford ever made and will tow with anything a 6.0 leaker, or a 6.4 re-gen-cab-lifter will while they are in the shop or on the side of the road waiting on a tow rig. I do feel sorry for all of your troubles, it's a real shame to spend so much money for a shabby engineered rig. Just think, next year Ford will introduce ANOTHER new diesel engine. Who's going to step up and buy one of them??

Figures coming from someone who ownes a v-10. Your truck will not pull like a 6.4l regardless of what you think. Also you only hear the negative as i have 52k on mine and 0 problems. You cant teach an old dog new trucks!!! O wait i mean tricks.

My old 7.3 Excursion got 23 mpg highway after CAI, exhaust, and tune. LOVED that truck and kick myself everyday since I traded it.

Had my recall done in Florida in April, returned to Maine pulling 35 foot fifth wheel. Regen every 125 to 150 miles. Running up the interstate without RV still regens every 125 to 150 miles. Lose about 1 to 2 tenths miles per gallon every time it does it. Still love this truck hate the fuel milage.

I still do like my truck and hopefully I will be in it again this Friday but the motor issues do concern me considering I have been pretty easy on it. I will have to give Ford a second chance now but if this motor even knocks and way that sounds out of the ordinary it will definitely be back at the dealership. This Friday I have been without my F-450 for 3 weeks and this is getting old.

Not all true really. The DPF and lower MPG due to it can be blamed on the tree huggers, but some of the other issues are really teething pains on new beneficial technology. A bit like the old carburator folks *****in' about the new fuel injection way back when.

I don't mean to change the thread but mine is so sweet the best ever. 35K. Judgeing from the boards there isn't much going wrong with these 6.4's.

I've signed up because I'm looking to replace a 1/2 ton P/U with a diesel. Looking for better fuel mileage while towing a 5,000 lb travel trailer.
I've had bad experience with auto-transmissions, but am easy on the clutches of manual trans I've owned.... so am wanting a manual on this.
Does anyone have a manual with the 6.4? If so, what type of mileage and reliability can I expect?
