6.4 standard maintenance intervals

I received an internal brochure from the local ford dealer.
I noticed one blurb:

(Regarding the 6.4)
It costs 17 percent less to maintain that its predecessor. That because of the extended standard maintenance schedule.
- 10,000 mile oil-drain interval
- 20,000 mile fuel filter change interval

Re: 6.4 standard maintenance intervals

BUT! The intervals for "severe duty use" are HALF that which you mentioned. DO NOT by any means think that this engine will tolerate poor maintenance any better than the 6.0L did. On the flip side, you won't have injection issues related to engine oil viscosity that were common with the HEUI engines. While the slightly extended intervals sound good, it is best to be cautious and not allow yourselves to become complacent with maintenance.

Re: 6.4 standard maintenance intervals

The "How to maintain your 6.4L truck" video someone posted recently went to great lengths to point out that "Severe Duty" includes things like lots of stop-n-go traffic. I'd say a lot more of us a Severe Duty than we realize. I know my 6.0L truck sure won't go the 7500 miles between oil changes that are spec'd for normal duty on it. That's one benefit of the HEUI injectors being sensitive to the oil condition: you know darn well when you've waited too long! I change mine at 5000 miles and it's quite happy that way.

Re: 6.4 standard maintenance intervals

If we were to get analytical, I would bet that there are more of us in the "severe duty" category than in the "normal" category.....

Unfortunately, society has succumbed to "ad-speak" and not many would respond well to "normal duty" and "light duty".

Even then, we can have extrodinary circumstances occur but we might consider them "normal" for us....

minus 30 or 40 degrees is normal in winter for me - at least one or two weeks of it in a year... A snow storm in May or even June isn't unheard of but rare. We might be shocked but we wont be amazed....
