6.4 Sucks Fuel!!!!!!

One of our contractors stopped in tonight to BS. He has an 08 550 Reg Cab 4x4 Automatic with 12,000 miles on it and while it has been problem free it averages 6.8 MPG mixed driving and 8.5 on the highway!!! It weighs right at 12,000# They have 3 other 6.4's getting similiar mileage while the old 7.3's in the fleet get almost double! My 99 Peterbuilt Dumptruck does 6.5 mpg in mixed driving with a 500HP Red Top Cummins in it at 54,000#!!! My 92 Shop Truck with a 460 GASSER does better than that pig at almost 12 in town and 14 highway!! Is there ANY help for mileage in these trucks????

So far the only reliable way to get better mileage is to slow down and drive the thing like a 80 yr old lady. OR toss your warranty out the window and do a EGR/DPF/DOC delete and use a programmer to disable the regen cycle.

Yeh, there's nothing like leaving everything stock and fighting to get 17 MPG on a good day.

OTOH, the diesel fuel robbing "devices" can fall off somewhere down the road, a programmer can be used to defeat codes, and I can get 19-21 MPG consistently when driving all interstate with the cruise set at 75. Sure, let me keep those "devices" on my truck along with the mandated active regen

all that emission stuff on the 2008's is exactly why I bought a 2007. I got 18.7mpg today at 70mph. That is pretty typical for me.

Just upgraded my 97 by trading in for a 2002. Had to sign something certifing that I did not alter the emissions system including exhaust and electrical. Don't know what the penalties will be for getting caught.

I found the best way to solve the 6.4 MPG issue...a Toyota Yaris. I bought one for 12 grand and it gets 39 MPG. I guess the good ole days are gone forever to greed. The F450 will only see use on camping trips and to haul stuff. I don't regret trading the 2005 D-max in, it only got 16.5 with a banks six gun. I do regret that I could not see into the future and see that fuel would be so much I don't want my fifth wheel and sweet assss F450.

I have a 2008 f-250 with an 8 in. lift and running 37's I set the SCT Extreme on 120 with elevation 2800 ft and I'm getting 12 mpg hand calculated. But I expect that from a pick-up. Everyone knows fords aren't known for gas mileage but they look dang good.
