You sound like me when I first got my 6.0, you'll change your tune real quick if you hang on to that truck too long. Those repair bills are extremely expensive. Everyone in the diesel world knows that the 6.0 is a problematic motor, it accelerates and pulls awesome, but that's about it. If you're going to buy one be prepared to pay big dollars when the truck needs new head gaskets, injectors, EGR tube/cooler or a complete motor due to catastrophic failure.

I understand you defending the 6.0, there are two things I will defend to the end....The Kentucky Wildcats and Ford. it pains me to speak the truth about the 6.0 but I'm not going to lie about it. I'm glad Ford wants to be the first to be the best and most powerful but they messed up big time with the 6.0. I just hope they didn't lose too many customers/fans.

Harley-Medic, Buy the 6.4, you won't regret it.

The engine fan on my 2006 F350SD is annoyingly noisy. It kicks into super-sonic speed both in town (not towing) and on the hi way when towing up a slight grade and when the ambient temperature is warm - say above 70F or so. The dealer says it's a common problem with the 6.0 engine and I'm trying to find out if the problem extends into the new 6.4 engine. I've ordered a 2009 F350 6.4 so I was wondering what to expect. I thought Ford added a whole lot of cooling capacity to the new trucks.

Well maybe? I guess there's not point in fighting about it..... But I will say all diesels are much more expensive to repair and upkeep. ALL DIESELS! And because I'm not ignorant to this fact I have the 7yr/200k warranty as do many other happy 6.0 owners. So, if in the next 2 1/2 years or 105k miles she starts to cr*p out on me that I'll sing your tune but I have to say at 90K + on a work truck that not only pulls heavy but does it on grades, she has a sterling record to this point!
As to buying the 6.4? Sure I would recommend that to if the prospective owner has the coin to do so. I think the new interior and diesel look great and I'm sure its fantastic to own and drive. But, there are a lot of perfectly good late 04's to 07's on the market for cheap, cheap, cheap. That would be a good buy for anyone too......

I would take that truck to a different Ford dealer. We have three 6.0 liters in our fleet (my 04, an 05 and an 06) none of them do that. I pull by far the most weight, that fan only comes on while climbing steep grades when I'm towing on a hot day. Never has it come on when I wasn't towing. Your truck has a problem if it is doing that, if that was normal you would hear it all the time coming from other trucks too.

Yup, at 90,000 miles I was feeling pretty good about my 04 too, 90,000 isn't much. Ford just told me I need to replace 7 injectors, this is after the head gaskets failed, the turbo had to be cleaned, the EGR tube and Valve failure. it gets expensive and annoying, I lose money when I don't have my truck. i love my 01 F350 C/C Lariat. That 7.3 can't pull like a 6.0 but it is durable.

I could not disagree more I would never own a 6.0l unless you are on warranty I am a maintenance fanatic and I got bit more times than I can count. If you have not had a problem with your 6.0L you are probably not a very picky person. I personally believe that it should drive like the day it comes off the lot every day.

I to am a Ford man at heart but I wouldn`t have a 6.0 without warranty. My buddy has a 05 or 06 (not sure of the year) & at 98000 miles the egr valve caused water to lockup the engine. Luckily it was stock so his warranty fixed it. Now he says it smells like antifreeze if he pulls with it.Just because you like a brand doesn`t mean you have to over look known problems. I say go with an 08.

I felt confident in my 03 6.0. People told me I would be fine with it. I went for it, and it did well for a while, but the list of work done on mine got long, and quickly! I became scared to even own it any longer, especially since my warranty was almost up. I replaced 2 fuel pumps (hfcm's), 7 injectors, egr valve, and right as I traded it the Head gaskets were starting to go, all under warranty. I know I missed some things in that list, but you get the idea. I sure like my 08 though.

Check my sig. All of my trucks have been great. I have been trading in at 3 years/50K. The '08 is light years beyond the '05. When I picked up my truck I couldn't believe the difference. This truck is more powerful, quieter, and rides and handles better by far. The audiophile stereo is fantastic for a stock system. My 6.0 had one front main seal leak diagnosed and fixed in one day, other than that- no problems. I just did not like my chances for it staying that way. I have seen alot of problems out of others' trucks.

Just make sure you don't order it with the snow plow option. Apparently, the fan runs a lot more and a lot louder on those trucks.

I second that, they're such a hit and miss kind of thing it looks pathatic,
just start them up with 50 degree temp and hear them missfire and smoke!!
starts worse then a 6.2 Chevy Diesel, buy a 2008 or 09 with the 6.4
alot more predictive,

I am a Ford Fan, but the 6.0 was a bad design. I had a 2005 model f250, but bought in Nov 2004. Ford bought back my truck on the lemon Law, after it had pretty much everything problem you could think of with the motor. A couple of Turbos, injectors, EGR Coolers, Oil Cooler, 3 HPOP failures, new short black, new heads, and I am sure there is more. Most of my problems starting hitting around 65,000 miles. Was towed into the dealer three times with my 5th wheel attached, I couldn't even trust it to take the family on vacation.

I just ordered a F350 DRW, looking forward to the new truck. Should be a on a rail car this week to me............
