6.4L diesel questions for a Ford/International Rep
I have a Ford rep coming out to our dealer on Thursday and he is willing to answer any questions that people may have. If anyone has any questions about the new 6.4L diesel please either post them or email them to me @ jduley@brightonford.com. This way I can let everyone know any unknown answers that may be out there. Thanks John Duley Brighton Ford-Mercury 810-494-4229
Re: 6.4L diesel questions for a Ford/International Rep
Also our first diesel just hit the ground today. We are expecting our first F450 on 2/12. I can't wait to see that one. I will post pics as soon as it comes in.
Re: 6.4L diesel questions for a Ford/International Rep
Two questions and a comment to pass on to him.
Q1. Will the DPF regeneration be very noticeable to operator of truck?
Q2. Are there any things to avoid that are bad for DPF? (long idling, cranking and allowing to idle to warm up prior to drive off)
Comment: The prices of filters needed for normal service are too high! An oil filter that is a simple pleated paper filter with no can nor any bypass valves should be less than the the self-contained filter. Any price above that range is usury. Same for fuel filters. The upkeep costs of Ford's 6.0 (I assume the 6.4 will have the same or maybe higher prices on thses parts, hopefully cheaper air filter elements with the new style), put these products at a disadvantage compared to competitive makes.
Also tell him to pat the guy on the back that fought for grease fittings on suspension joints!

Re: 6.4L diesel questions for a Ford/International Rep
We just got our first truck in today as well. I drove it. Sweeeet! Even though I have completed the training, I did not get to go over the truck like I did this morning. You guys are going to love this truck. Ford did a really nice job refining the Super Duty in my opinion. I almost broke the rear wheels free from a dead stop and the truck seems to ride a little smoother but I didn't get a very long road test... yet. Like you, we are waiting for our 450's to arrive which I really want to see.

IF A DPF REGEN HAPPENS AT IDLE YOU WILL NOTICE A LITTLE LOUDER OF A KNOCK AND IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE STANDING NEAR THE TAIL PIPES YOULL NOTICE ITS GETTING PRETTY HOT. THE BIG KILLERS OF THE DPF IS USING LOW SULFER DIESEL AND/OR THE CI-4 OIL

Re: 6.4L diesel questions for a Ford/International Rep
1. Is the fuel mileage the same, better, or worse than a 7.3L and/or 6.0L
2. Current state / opinion of Ford/Navistar relations?

Re: 6.4L diesel questions for a Ford/International Rep
1.) what's the max injection pressure of the new CR system?
2.) how many nozzle holes?
3.) what size are the nozzle holes?
Thanks.

Re: 6.4L diesel questions for a Ford/International Rep
I guess I'd want to know what changes they made to the 6.4 to avoid some of the *troubles* that the 6.0 had... it's a confidence issue for people on the fence (like me) of buying a new Ford truck vs. SOB.
As for fuel mileage, the 6.4 supposedly gets better mileage (can't remember the linky to the powerpoint presentation with all the info on the new truck -- this info was in that presentation). Also in the presentation were some very impressive noise numbers. Something like a 9 dB reduction (that's huge).
Cheers,

Re: 6.4L diesel questions for a Ford/International Rep
Been on you're lot many times, you guys keep a nice selection. When are you going to get some 08 F350 crew cabs? Ask the rep if it will ever be possible to install things like an edge juice or bullydog, or possibly methanol/water injection. Is there any possibility of upgrading the turbos?
Re: 6.4L diesel questions for a Ford/International Rep
Since there is still no EGT guage offered..have to ask..any change in the turbo cool down requirement? Also..in dead stock configuration...does the computer "control" things well enough that I can't hurt it pushing hard, up a long hill with a heavy 5th wheel on the back?
