7500 mile update

turned 7500 over the weekend, truck doing great. no problems so far, as I would expect there to be none. the truck tows great, as I have said before, but after all she's a big 450, so it should tow great. just like many of you, the mileage sucks really bad for me too. when i turned 7500 i was not towing, but cruising at about 73, with nothing but my honda atv in the back. 9.7!!! thats horrible!!!
i want to add some likes of mine for the new truck. i like the button for the mirror defrost, on the 06 it was incorporated into the defroster. i like the improved king ranch leather, i like the quiet engine, power response is very good, and very little delay. the turning is great. and this 450 rear limited slip is the best i have had so far, just turning in the dirt leaves the inside wheel track very rippled on the ground, and the outside smooth. big improvement on the tranny too. so over all i really like the truck, AS A WHOLE.
HOWEVER, there are few things that are not only silly, but just stupid IMO. first is the ugly, not that useful cupholder that folds out of the lower dash. it is useless, and too low, and blocks the cubbyhole in front of console. the dual climate zone is cool, but i do not like that i can not control both of them from the steering wheel. i think they should have the controls for the passenger, as they do now, for them to change if they are there. i have to change that side when i use the defroster or only the driver's side windshield will defrost. and then change it back, so much for convenience. there is also no oil pressure gauge or readout, unless i just do not see it. the painted bumpers are just a poor choice on ford's part as they chip very easily from road debris. the chrome are much more durable. the ****pit coloring is not that great either, mine has tan, gray, black, deep redish leather, and chrome. and the chrome area between the two cupholders on the console hits the sun just right and blinds me, til i put my phone over it. again poor thinking on ford's part. also the pueblo gold does not match the tan colored plastics, they much darker and the painted part is too lite. yes its a little thing, but when you spend big $$ and then two hours really cleaning her up, and drying her off, you see these things and you just think, they could have done better.
but over all, the goods do out weigh the bad. except the mileage, if i had to pay for my fuel myself, i would not have this truck, especially right now.

Re: 7500 mile update

Slow down. These trucks are built for towing, not flying. I just turned 9,000 miles(4,000 of them towing 22,000lbs) and now my unloaded mpg at 60mph is 13.5-14.5. I know, putting along, but with diesel here closing in on $3.50 a gallong, I gotta do what I gotta do. What fold out cupholders? Oh, you must have bought ESOF. While full control manual hubs and manual transfer case, I did not get the too low, fold out cupholders. To me, the camel leather interior much better looking than the gray. I agree, never liked painted bumpers, another reason for a Lariat. When the 6-speed Torqueshift comes out, I might consider retrofitting my truck with one. Sure will cost $3,000+ but by then diesel will probably be $5 a gallon.

that was great, best joke i heard all day. part of my "pay" is fuel when i am local, which is most of the time. i do use the truck to pick up trailers and boats from time to time and i do not get any mileage or additional reimbursement. some think i am crazy, but i can tell you that it is well worth it, a few extra miles and minor wear on my truck and tires, etc. and no fuel costs to me, even just going back and forth to work, it works for me just fine.

Re: 7500 mile update

Ford makes a really nice truck whether it's doing 30mph or 80mph. Going faster doesn't make it any more impressive nor better than those who prefer to drive slower.

Re: 7500 mile update

Doesn't the button on the dash make the climate system go single temp control and then the steering wheel controls will adjust both sides for you?

My 04 and 06 heated mirrors were on all the time with or without defroster.

I would rather have the second compartment (like my 06) in the dash instead of the pop down cup holder

The oil gauge on previous models was simply turned on by the oil pressure switch and did not reflect actual oil pressure; so we are not missing much with that respect.

No voltmeter gauge either (the previous models had voltmeter if you had the manual transmission IIRC, in place of auto tranny temp gauge)

Of course it would be nice if the temperature gauges had EU, engineering units, and displayed accurately in degrees. Last I checked with scan tool on 04 & 06 the temperature could be rising while I was pulling trailer up hill but the dash gauge would never move.

I'd like real accurate gauges including oil pressure, voltage, temperatures of coolant, tranny, and exhaust, boost; plus I want an indication of the percent effiency for the DPF, a regeneration indicator, and regen delay and initiate by driver...... R U listening Ford Motor Company?

I miss my fold down arm rest on the side of the seat back; the padded console top is nice but too low for my arms to take stress off of shoulders on long trips.

Glove box is smaller. Couldn't get all the junk from 06 to fit in it....

The angle of the radio on the dash results in more glare.

The memory option is nice. The power ports inside console and on rear of console are nice. Love the rear view camera option. Liking the sat radio too. Heated seat switches on dash are 100% improvement over side of seat location (do wish they had more control like GM though). Storage in rear doors vs. old models with nothing is good too. Factory 6-CD changer w/ Sat radio Audiophile sound system sounds much better than my 06.

The exterior mirrors flat rock and are one of the best improvements to whole truck.

Wide track front axle option on my F-350 is another best in class option that looks great and is functional too boot!

Only thing missing is a six speed automatic.... R U listening Ford Motor Co?

I'm at 2500 miles so far.....

Overall, I really like this truck in spite of my observations above.... It pulls our fifth wheel better than expected (if not in regen) and the 08 Superduty is one swell looking truck compared to the competition with respect to ride height and how the wheels fill the wheel well openings.

unless i am doing something wrong it does not. there is button labeled "dual", i ahve hit this and tried to make it work from the steering wheel and the driver's side control but it does not. the wheel works for driver's side just as buttons work for each side.

VERY WELL PUT. i first mentioned the arm rests when i was looking for a new truck, and even turned a deal down after the deal was done, and i was moving intot he truck, i decided not to take it. glad i did, because i got a much better deal later. anyway, yes the center console is more eyeing appealing than useful IMO. ford is working on a 6spd auto and witht he way sales are, and people hating the fuel mileage, it may be out sooner than expected.
gauges, yes the whole truck has alomost completely gone to "idiot lights" instead of gauges. now we have turbo boost gauges and things of that sort to appeal to the racer guys. i would rather good oil pressure and good voltage gauges as oppossed to turbo boost. i do not modify my trucks, and its under warranty, if the turbo blows up, they need to fix it. plus if it boosts up real high to do the job you want it to do, are you going to stop pulling??? my turbo boost on this new truck runs nearly pegged full scale when i am pulling. which bring me to another thought, the dummies (ford) moved it. it used to be right there in with the rpm gauge. they should put it back and give us an oil pressure gauge, at least i would pay more attention to that one. these and many other reasons are why i am so surprized that most people really thought this 08 model was some super new advancement, when it really was not thought out as well as it could have been.

just a question, on the new trucks does it say anything about letting the engine break in?
