6.4L Power Stroke Engine and Drivetrain Discussion of the 6.4L Power Stroke diesel engine and drivetrain in the 2008 Super-Duty trucks. No gas engine discussion allowed except on transmissions and drivetrain that pertain to all models. Am I crazy for considering this truck?

Considering the problems with the 6.4l, am I crazy for considering this truck?

$43K for a used truck is way too much considering many including myself bought loaded new crewcabs for $45K or less. I am not sure why you are saying "all the problems with 6.4l". To me there are not that many problems. Most were taken care of early on. The vast majority are having no problems at all. There seems to be something still going on with reflashes and regens, but the trucks run fine. But the one thing that is causing problems more than anything else is tuners - and this truck looks like a prime for having had a tuner which will void the warranty. If the truck has had "after market upgrades", I wouldn't touch it.

If there are any problems with the 6.4L, it's the issues regarding the emissions compliance. Duramax and Cummins are also having a bit of a time with it.

So maybe you meant to ask this question: Considering the problems with the newer DPF-equipped diesels, am I crazy for considering this truck?

Personally i would pass on the truck. Get onto fords website and find a list of all of the dealers that are close enough to drive to. Go to the dealers websites and see if they have any 08s on their lot. If you find one you like give them a call. If you can find one you should be able to get it for invoice or less plus fords rebates which will put you in the same range as this truck.

I paid 41 OTD for my fx4 new and almost fully loaded, minus the in dash monitor and sunroof becuase I didnt want them.

I special ordered mine complete with the Lift, wheels, tires and Nav/Entertainment system through my dealer. Paid $49.5 at 0% for 5 years.

As others have stated, you can get an '09 at $12K off of MSRP + TTL out the door, easy. I would go new vs the price they are asking on the used '08.
