Are any of you intrested in the new 6.4 ..............................................

I have been reading a little about it and it looks like ford has got
everything so you cant modify even the exhaust tip. Let alone
a programmer, air filter or anything else. That being said I am glad
I have an 02 with 41k miles. I not a big fan of the front either.
What do you guyes think???

Re: Are any of you intrested in the new 6.4 ..............................................

I'm going to have to do something, as I have a standard cab, and the wife and I are talking kids. I figure I got at least a year or so before I have to get one. I hope to swing it where I can hold onto my 02 as long as I can! Then again I have never been dissapointed with the 4 Ford Trucks I have owned in my life, so I think the next one is going to be just as good!

Re: Are any of you intrested in the new 6.4 ..............................................

My low mileage, paid off 7.3 sounds much better than a $50K 6.4

I just wish my was a crew cab instead of just a supercab. If I do end up making an upgrade it'll be to a cheby and most likely a gasser, but again the paid off part is nice.

just my $0.02 worth

Yep, My 02 only has 40K miles, and it's paid 4.....

This residence won't be upgrading trucks....

And if I ever do, it will never be a new one anyway...

It all just looks too damn complicated and expensive to repair. Why they don't just try to keep it simple is beyond me.

Doesn't the EPA have better things to worry about then how much our trucks are polluting?

I agree the EPA should dissolve and let us get back to producing "low-tech" reliable engines

Re: Are any of you intrested in the new 6.4 ..............................................

Yep I'm interested. When I traded off my '02, it was in the wake of speculation that the 7.3 was equipped with some weaker connecting rods than previous years. Since I have not since heard of any problems arising from this, I wish I had hung onto it- as it never gave me any problems save a failed hydraulic system on the clutch that was replaced under warranty.

Mind you, my 6.0 has been a good truck, although it had a front main leak that was repaired and never came back. It has 30K on it now, and usually this engine will have already come apart if it was going to. Despite the clouded rep the 6.0 has, if you look through used truck ads, they are still holding value suprisingly well.

The 6.4 seems to be the result of a long learning curve from the 6.0 debacle. I believe Ford has learned a lesson, and since the SD trucks are the bread and butter of their profit base, it would follow that this new engine will be better. I was, at first, put off by the appearance, but I felt the same about the '05, and I have since grown to like it. as far as the modding goes, I think you will find that those days are about over for any diesel. With the EPA's new regs, you will be in violation of several laws if you screw with the emmisions, and all of the big three will be taking technological steps to discourage this. If you want your truck to run a satisfying 1/4 mile, you're better off keeping the 7.3, and hopping it up. Rebuild it if you have to. 41K ain't squat on that motor- just keep it. I'll be looking for a 6.4 IF it does well in its first year on the road, and IF the litigation between Ford and Navistar doesn't render this engine extinct from the get-go, or drive the price even further out of reach.

Re: Are any of you intrested in the new 6.4 ..............................................

A 6.0 will spank a stock 7.3
a 6.0 will run with a 60 hp chipped 7.3
If the 6.4 runs as it should it will spank a modified (but still reliable to tow with) 7.3.
For anyone who tows heavy loads this will be a much better truck than anything before it. Note: If it is reliable, that is the kicker.

Re: Are any of you intrested in the new 6.4 ..............................................

Speculation that these trucks can't be modified is simply... well, speculation. The aftermarket is a huge industry, and there's plenty of folks out there with the money and talent to provide go fast goodies for the 6.4L. It's just going to take some time and ingenuity. Give it about a year, and there will be some really fast ones on the street.
