Autostart - Diesel Forum

Hey all, need some advice on autostarts with this new 6.4L. First, can they be programmed to allow glow plugs to cycle properly before starting?
I am getting mixed info concerning idling. On one hand, I am told that the new engines are not supposed to be idled long, (more than the normal 5-10 minute warm-up). Supposedly, it can cause the DPF to clog prematurely. Can this be prevented/addressed with the SEIC switch added? What is the deal with idling anyhow? When the temps get low here, typically -10f and lower from DEC-FEB, this is going to be a big concern. I don't have a heated hanger for parking

I have the one thst the fsctory installed and it is set for a 30 second delay to allow for the glow plugs. Works great! I've also noticed that it'll time out if you leave it idleing after roughly 15 minutes. Hope this helps.
