The backup lights stoped working on my '08 450 I have a flat bed on it. The wireing looks good in the back and I checked the fuse under the hood and it was good. The truck had backup sensors and they are unhooked because of the flatbed. Where would you start am I overlooking a fuse and what number for sure are they? Thanks for the help
A few things you need to know about the reverse lamps on 2008 MY Super Duty trucks: The lamps are controlled by the PCM or the TCM (depending on the engine it equipped with) by controlling a relay. It is VERY common for body installers to connect upfit bodies to the trailer wiring in the back of the truck instead of the main lighting circuits. So, with that said, you need to be aware that there are THREE fuses you need to check in the battery fuse panel as well as the relay which is also located there. Your owner's guide will have the fuse/relay location and rating information.
The backup lights on the bed are hooked up to the factory bed wiring harness. The backup lights on the trailer are hooked to the factory trailer wording and also don't work. What should I check next? Thank you.
Aside from checking the fuses to see if they were good, did you verify that they are getting power when the transmission is in reverse? (some people visually check them - others use a test light or volt meter)
We need to know if you have power at the fuses or not to determine what to test next.
Auto or standard? My reverse lights quit and it was a switch connected to the manual transmission. Once I finally diagnosed the problem, I replaced the switch in about five minutes.
