BCP and Cold Temp Advice

Hi all, new to here. Been reading around, just got mine. I saw mention of using upfitter switches to attach the SEIC and BCP. I got the SEIC part, but what would be the purpose of the Battery Charge Protection on a switch?

I live in the interior of Alaska. I am going to winterize soon. What will I need to get for fuel additives and why? I will not be storing the vehicle in a heated garage. I could use some cold temp advice. The book says do not go over 60% anti-freeze. That is the minimum here, but should suffice. I suppose I could add concentrate and dilute as needed. Advice appreciated.

Troy

Re: BCP and Cold Temp Advice

Well me being in Florida is hardly one to give you advise in AK but wouldn't your dealer know how to winterize the truck him being local and all. I guess my block heater will never get plugged in. LOL

Dog, dealer has plenty of advice, I just like to get real-world advice too. It's all checks and balances. That is part of helping each other with info so we are all armed with the right questions for the dealers and service depts.

Re: BCP and Cold Temp Advice

I'll attempt to answer your first question. BCP idles up the engine much like SEIC. The main difference is, SEIC just sets the RPM at 1200rpm (or higher if you use a resistor or potentiometer on a specific wire) and is basically just an idle speed increase. BCP (Battery Charge Protection) idles up and varies idle speed (on its own) from 900rpm up to (I think) a max of 2400rpm, depending on the current draw on the electrical system. Meaning, if BCP is active and you are using tons of aux lighting or other electrical equipment, the idle speed will adjust for more alternator output.

Re: BCP and Cold Temp Advice

Thanks for the response. That makes sense now.
