? on Bed Plate Oil Leak, UPdate

I have a Job 3 F350 Drw that was just diagnosed with a bed plate oil leak...@ 5000 miles.

Now having gone through this 3 other times with my 6.0's... I was just wondering if this is also common with the 6.4?? Tried to do a search and did not come up with much...

The dealership told me that they have never seen one yet on the 6.4.. I am the first..I hope that is the truth....

I really like the truck... just hate the thought of the cab having to come off on this one also... As the other trucks were never quite right after... Rattle here clunk there...

One last question for any tech that reads this.... Do you use the same rod and main bearings on the rebuild?? And is it more apt to get the same leak later on down the road!!!

Thanks

I now have about 500 miles on since the oil leak was fixed... No more oil leak.. It was still disheartning to see the PU tore apart.. I even got to look at the crank and underside of the pistons...

I do have a question for anybody who maybe has had this happen..

1. After the fix the engine seems to have a very loud drone from 1800 to 2000 RPM's. No matter what gear and under a load or not.. Very annoying.

Is this a known issue,, ??

Make sure that it is the bed plate that is leaking. The 6.4L (and late 6.0s) should be less prone to this failure due to better quality control. It is easy to misdiagnose a leak from somewhere else.

Regarding the fix, there are 2 methods. You can either replace the crankcase or RTV it. The RTV method seems to work well.

If the crankcase is replaced, I would recommend new main bearings but its not absolutely necessary. The rod bearings can be reused. For the RTV method, no new bearings are required.

Once repaired, it shouldn't leak.

thanks,,, I am driving it around with Dye in the oil... Bringing it back on Monday of next week for the final verdict.

I really hope it is not the bed plate.... but the tech said the oil is seeping from the bed plate down and being drawn to the back of the engine... On both sides...

Husky, you are not the first to have this problem. This happen on mine also in August of this year with 4500 miles on it. Discovered at first oil change. The cab will come off and motor pulled, turned upside down and torn down. Two gaskets leaking between block and bed plate. These are the main seals. Ford will fix this problem. You are the second person I have heard this happing to. I'm am the first that I know of. Had my truck a little over four weeks to complete this work. They report to Ford and Ford tells them what shall be done. Make sure you see the engine torn apart and snap a few photo's. I did for future conditions. Yes I do have the picture of cab off and engine apart and turned upside down. Wish I didn't though.

Still not to happy about having the engine torn apart just to fix a leak..

Husky, I have checked mine and rechecked it numerous times and no leak to be found. Also with the cab being off, there's no rattles or creaks either. They did do a good job on mine. I suggest they have everything they need before they pull the motor. This problem should take about a week or seven working days to complete if done right. I was not happy with my motor being torn down either. Went round and round with ford rep on this matter. His answer is Ford will fix if cost are below 8k and that goes pretty much for everything he said. Call ford customer service, voice your opinion and see what they will do for you. I did this several times and worked to my favor.

Husky, glad and hopefully your problem was solved. I have not had any problems sine my work was completed. And to answer your question on the droning sound, no can't say that i do.

UPDATE !!!!!
After about 700 miles... Truck left the family and I stranded.... Again.... in 17 degree temps... with 40 mph winds non the less....

To make a very long story shorter... traveling down the interstate cruise set at 78 mph 60 miles into a 400 mile trip.. the truck started bucking... to the point that it completely lost power.... Limped into a rest area.

After about 15 minutes talking to diesel tech.. I decided to try and hit the highway... engine never did die... no power... had to the floor just to get to 60 mph... (by the way I had #1 diesel in it also... so no gelling here). Made it to the nearest ford dealer... 40 miles away running between 40-60mph... Diesel tech at this dealership hooked up computer... and guess what... High pressure fuel pump was not getting enough pressure to injectors....
The fix to this is to pull cab off again..... and they are 4 weeks out... and truck is 100 miles away from home....

One question... does anyone think that the injectors were hurt from the drive with low pressure???

Faith in this truck is gone...
