Hey Marine,

Did you ever spray silicone on the belt and/or pulley?
Or, have your local weather conditions changed, as in gotten warmer?
I remember you indicated pouring water on the pulley or belt to make the noise go away. Have you done this only once, or have you repeated the process over and over to eliminate the chirp?

Re: belt chirp when cold??

no silicone...the temps here around dallas are very erratic!! it has been as cold as 19F in the mornings and into the 70's in the afternoon. i poured water on it several mornings in a row, but got sick of it and stopped doing it. it still has a very slight chirp if you listen real close, but not near as bad as it was.

Re: belt chirp when cold??

I brought my truck to the service dept. yesterday, and they could hear it chirping and squeaking; hell, everyone could. A couple of people came up to me and said, "That Looks Like A New Truck." I said, "Why, It Is!" "Sounds Great, Doesn't It?" "It Has Just Over 500 Miles On The Odometer." Although, I did tell these folks, other than the annoying chirp and squeak, I really do like the truck.

Fortunately, I will only have to wait until this Tuesday, which is when the appointment is scheduled to get it in there to hopefully eliminate the problem.

I have a chirp and am told it is a pulley and they are waiting on parts. Turned it in on Tuesday and called today for an update to be told that the tech was waiting for a bay. I have a small leak on the drivers side that felt oily and I thought maybe a tranny cooler line, but they say radiator and between the two I can expect to get it back on Monday.
Very disappointing to say the least. I also have the whine in the rear end and the Drive Shaft was replcaed per the TB and it has not helped any. Advisor says they are waiting on tools to inspect the diff.
If I get it back with the diff problem still there, I will take it to a dealer with a commercial dept, as this dealer is clueless. I would just pull it now, but my luck the radiator would fail 100% if that is what the leak truly is.
I understand new things have bugs, but the way the dealer explains things, makes it worse. I sometimes wish I would have kept my 01 250, as it never caused me an issue.

Mine just started doing it after 13000 miles. Reminds me exactly of my 04 F150 5.4 3V. It started squealing on cold startup. After replacing the belt, a time or two, they discovered that they needed to shim the water pump if I am recalling correctly. In any event, whatever they shimmed fixed the problem which wasn't a belt or pulley.

ive got almost 18000miles now and mine is still squeaking on startup. im in southwest houston and its not that cold. maybe was 45 this morning. i dont mind that it squeaks, but my last ford never did it once in 12 years. its one thing for an older well used vehicle to do that but a NEW $40-50K truck shouldnt have that issue with no sollutions (or this is what dealer says)

bdmcd15, let us know what they say about it at the dealer.

Thumbs up Belt Chirp when cold

Its not Ford...its the Ford Mechanics and Fix-it System...Hee, Hee

Hey Men of the new Diesel World...

My Late 08 F250 KR...began Chirping in the cold morn about 5K miles ago. Finally stop by a Ford Dealer(The last place you wanna go...Hee, Hee) and pulled the TSB. Got lined up to change one of the idler pulley's right?...Well, to get to this pulley you have to remove all the 7 or so heat exchangers and take out the Fan while your at it. About a 3 hour job to change the pulley and belt. I looked on while Arron did the work. Let me see now? 300 dollars labor to change a 50 dollars worth of parts. Yea! no that is a good deal...for Ford shops all over Ford Nation. I wonder what Ford Engineers were doing when Navistar was designing the gu-dee-grah? The even worst thing to imagin is that there is no wher else to go to buy a good Diesel.

Well...to make a long story short, my chip fix did not work...its chirping worst than ever. This is only a sign that i, super diagnostic m;an will have to fix it myself(This is what i get for being retired). Yep the service mgr...says, well? bring it in and we'll look at it. Yea! like I like my truck disasymbled twice a weak by incompident messchanics. They already had their chance...and like there is no gig to rig up on the engine to test it...its just 3 hours of labor every time you get a earg to take a crap...

Good luck on yours folks...i am fixing my own next week and i will pass it on, on what i find.

I had my idler pulley replaced under the TSB 15,000 miles ago and not a chirp since. It took them a few hours to pull the coolers, replace the pulley/belt and put it all back together again.
