Block heater cord -- taped back?

I went to buy a block heater cord for my 6.4 and the Ford parts guy said before you buy one to check and make sure one was not installed and they just taped it back.

Has anyone found one taped back? Where exactly would it be?

Help is always appreciated.

Thanks,

DRDON

Right behind the front bumper - just left of the license plate.

Re: Block heater cord -- taped back?

the 6.4s have to be ordered from the factory with the chord, its got the heating element in the block but no chord unless it was ordered with one.

Re: Block heater cord -- taped back?

if i is taped back it would be near the starter being that the the element is rite above the starter. But if not ordered it is probaly not there... though sometimes they are there even if not ordered, and not in a state that it is stock.

Re: Block heater cord -- taped back?

It should be on the window sticker if it's on the truck. It's only $25 or $35. My truck did not have it but the dealer put one on as part of the deal. As previous posters have said every truck has the element in the block - it's only the cord that needs to be added if the option was not factory installed. Probably a pretty easy DIYS.

Re: Block heater cord -- taped back?

In Canada it must be part of the package cause I didn't order mine and it came with it.It was just hanging over the bumper on the passenger side.

Re: Block heater cord -- taped back?

It's up to the dealers. My dealer doesn't usually spec them - another dealer 20 miles away had them on all of their trucks. For the colder areas it probably becomes standard equipment rather than an option.

Re: Block heater cord -- taped back?

You are correct Bullmack, in Minnesota and a number of other northern states, it is standard, so I would assume it is standard in Canada as well.

Re: Block heater cord -- taped back?

Has anyone added the cord? My local, marginally competent, dealer says he's never heard of "adding" the cord.

Part # maybe?

Re: Block heater cord -- taped back?

My dealer added the cord but it was part of the purchase so I never saw a bill.

Any dealers parts department should be able to figure it out - than ask service for an installation cost. It's under $40 MSRP as an option.

Added mine myself. Took about 15 minutes. Comes complete with an instruction sheet. Sorry I don't have the part number as I chunked the bag it came in. Your dealers parts dept. should be able to give you the part number. I think I paid about 65.00 for the cord which is what our dealerships invoice was for.

Re: Block heater cord -- taped back?

Thanks to both of you,

I'll swing by the fleet dealer in StL and see if they can find it in their book.

I bought this truck in Florida when I was at Daytona. My beloved 02 started misbehaving on the way down and the dealer couldn't find anything wrong so I came home with a new 08... Unfortunately I didn't think about a truck shipped to Miami not needing the block heater. At least I'm glad I only need a cord to be back in business.
