buying new used truck

Is there anything or year that I should avoid with the 6.4L? Looking at 3 trucks all F350's 2 08's and 1 09.

What are the miles on each and do you know how they drove them? Off hand I would be looking at the newest of the bunch simply because it is newer.

How about options wise? I would be zeroing in on the one that has the factory tow mirrors and trailer brake controller as well.

On the '08's make sure all the recalls have been done . If so you shold be good. Also , get a car fax report , it helps a bunch.

Theres a reason that there are so many 08's and 09's that are used, with low mileage, and for sale. Don't get me wrong, I have one. But it would seem to me that the 6.4's, with relation to the DPF emissions package is a problem that many people just can't seem to deal with. When its bad, its BAD.

Just being honest. My truck just came from the dealership, and for the second time...................inside of a week.......................

I agree, the emissions can be a real killer. Only way it is compatible are for those that run mostly hwy.

If you are a short run, city mostly then a gas motor would be better.

If you run hwy longer runs heavy loads then the emissions should not be the issue, at least not for me.

Excellent points. Agreed across the board. Highway rides, and regens on the highway don't seem to be that big of a deal. City driving and city regens are terrible, and the heat is borderline dangerous if you ask me. I'm more of the "city driver" but if she goes into regen, I just jump on the highway and go for a nice cruise.

Ask the dealer for the Oasis report. Check the driver side frame rail up close to the bumper, seems that's where the trail of coolant flows from the infamous radiator leak, at least that's where mine became obvious.

If your interested in this one, make sure it is up to date on all re-flashes, recalls, etc. as stated by another poster.

Most of all, IMO, buy the extended warranty. Peace of mind is priceless.

Love that 8ft. box. Nice!

Not looking to do tons of local driving with it. Buying to haul horses and equipment with as I do with the x and dually now. I have a gasser for local putsin. it is a early 08 build. They claim it has had all work done already.

Are there alot of 6.4's for sale in your area? There arent in my area. When I was searching last year I ended up buying a new 6.4 because there were not many used ones to choose from. I'm still looking in my area (just for the heck of it) & I still dont see alot of 6.4's for sale.

Well, its also important NOT to forget about the internet posting, and why we are here. I can honestly say, I might be on this site once or twice a month when I don't have any issues. When I have an issue, I'm on it once or twice a day.

What I'm saying is, there are plenty of people out there driving these trucks, and loving them, with no issues. But surfing on the net, you tend to read the stories from the other side. It's the same with EVERY friggin thing out there.

Absolutely the truth. There are thousands of 6.4's on the road daily doing what they were built to do without any issues. Unfortunately, most of the good stories never reach this forum.

thats ok i just wanna know what the bad stuff is. I dont mind experiencing the good stuff on my own. This site is awesome. Helped me fix my 7.3 and its little problems. Kept me from visiting the stealership. The dealers ship called me on that 08 and said they are at rock bottom on that truck 34799. I personally think the truck is worth $30K and would be at the dealership or driving it instead of posting this. I find that hard to believe but I told him if they gave me 15K for my excursion i'd buy it. They said they had someone looking at it yesterday and I told him If it sells it sells. Im sure another one will come along. Maybe a nicer one!
