I gotta say, this 6.4 starts soooo nice in the cold compared to my 6.0. Probably in a hurry to start guzzling fuel.
At what temp have you guys had to plug in the 6.4?

Ford says to plug it in in the negative temps. I plug mine in when it hits the mid teens just to reduce warm-up time plus it produces enough heat it clears the snow and ice off the front hood. What ever you do get yourself a appliance timer (a normal timer but will handle 15amps) and set if for 3 hrs before you are supposed to leave. Any more is a waste of power but it will not hurt anything except for your power bill.
I prefer to do the same as Rock Doctor. It sure makes it easy to clear the hood. But, I have started it down to about minus ten or so quite a few times when it's been sitting all day at the shop. Was still quieter than a warmed-up Dodge.

I'm a wimp. I plug mine in whenever it gets below freezing. Like you all, mine's started easily in single digits without plugging it in. David

Coldest I have had to start mine is around 25 degrees. It started easier and sounded better than my 7.3 at 45 degrees. I live in MD and my 6.4 did not even come with a plug for my block heater, so right now I could not use it even if I wanted to and I doubt that I will get one anytime soon.
I have started mine not plugged in at -10*F!! Now that was a cold start. It started instantly, but loped and smoked for quite a while. I run Spartan tuning though.

I have had to start my 2010 up at -22 F. No other options. It started right up, chugged a little but was fine and ready to roll in a couple minutes. I do think the block heater would have helped. However it was a confidence builder to know she starts when it's that cold.

Exactly what I do here in Michigan. Have it on a timer 3.5 hrs. before I go to work. Also warms the windshield enough to make scraping the frost off a little easier.
