does anyone know what the cost of these basic maint. items will be?, I hope it's not like $30 for a $1 paper filter!

As near as I can tell, they're the exact same ones on the 6.0L engine, whose costs are well known, as is the fact that you should never ever ever ever buy them from a Ford dealer, or you'll pay 2 to 4 times too much for the exact same filters.

Everything about this engine will be expensive, lately Ford does not keep an engine in production long enough for the aftermarket to catch up. Hopefully Duncan is right and the filter from the 6.0 will interchange, but don't bank on it. Look guys, this new diesel truck age is simply going to be a "pay if your gonna play" deal, higher fuel, less mileage, expensive maintenance, expensive repairs, on and on and on. Takes all of the fun out of owning a diesel..............not really, but you better have a wallet full to afford one and keep it up. I feel for the guys who really "need" one, i.e. they need it to earn a living, the rest of us who just "want" a diesel will be thinking hard about the finances involved.

In the early days we bought oil filters for our 6.0's at the international dealer for 1/2 price compared to ford. I suspect this option may be possible with the new 6.4?

Want to call? I'm in the book. Want to argue....First explain the square root of negative one....lol
You know, I wondered if they had put a second HFCM-sized fuel filter up on the engine, since the cap I can see peeking out in pictures looks as big. Or did they move the HFCM up on the engine (can I get a HALLELUJAH!!!!?) and get rid of the tiny one entirely? I wonder if we finally get a real lever on the drain, like the mythical one shown in the diesel supplement on later trucks.

The HFCM is not on the engine. The fuel filter on the engine is a secondary filter. Debris and water are very damaging to the common rail pump and piezo injectors.
So we're still crawling under the driver's floor during filter changes, or to let water out? Did we at least finally get the lever? Pretty please?

Don't quote me on this: I believe the 2008 FCM will be in a similar location to the 2007 truck, but it will have "the lever".

That would be splendiferous! Though I'll believe it when an actual owner here on TDS posts a picture of one...
