Took my '08 job 1 into the dealer last week (53K) due to excessive regenerations, about every 40 to 60 miles. They said nothing was wrong and reprogrammed. From my perspective, the only thing this reprogram did was hide the regeneration message in the systems check menu, so I wouldn't be able to tell if the truck is regenerating.
When I left the dealership, they held up this pen like silver gadget that flashed a funny light in my eyes, then said, "You will not care if your truck is in a regen cycle more often than not. Go take your wife out to a nice dinner and movie. Don't come back here." The service adviser was dressed in a black suit and black thin tie. Hmmm...
The truck is still regenerating every 40 to 60 miles. I can hear the engine noise change, feel lack of power, and see the turbo doesn't go above 250 psi during a regen. When I feel/see that I can press the display systems check to see that, indeed, the truck is in regen again.
So I'm now trying ford brand fuel treatment. If that doesn't work, I'll change the air filter, even though the gauge shows no restriction.
Any other ideas that won't void the warrantee?
My wife enjoyed the dinner and Zombieland movie... Thanks Men in Black.
It sound like you have not finished a regenerating cycle. The regenerating will start up if it has not finish the cycle. it is over 20 min and not less than +30 MPH to finish a regenerating cycle.
i agree with senix, get the truck out on the freeway, get it good and hot and drive it for 30-45 minutes traight if you can.

ok then it the DPF need clean/non plugged . It does talk about it in owners book or DVD.
Ford would say replace DPF but there away to clean them. But it is cover by the epa warranty for 100k. So first find a new dealer and call mother Ford.
i've noticed when towing and heavy pulling it regend more often, but only like ever 100-110

Well I’m getting the same feeling as TPompei. I went out of town hunting and my truck’s front right rim was discoloured from brake dust and hot, once I got the brake to release, I drove my truck back to the dealer on Oct 19 since I have to use my truck to go on a 2000 mile trip this weekend and didn’t want to go that far with the truck right out of the shop with new repairs. I mention to the service adviser that since my truck is here, I like to know why my since the last flash and new rad (May09) why my truck is getting poorer MPG, my coolant reservoir has been low since the new rad and that I was going into Regen at least once a tank no matter how I drove. I told him to call me when the work was done (which he didn’t), I call him three days later and he told me that they pressure tested the rad and it passed, the slide on the calliper was sticking and they freed and cleaned the calliper slide and that my truck took a new update flash. I asked him why it took a new flash when I have been asking them for at least six months that I wasn’t impressed with the last flash and he said since I had complained and it was in, they could connect the computer and check it under warranty.
Since I was still out of town, I asked my wife to pick the truck up and make sure that she gets paper work, well she picked it up and the Service Adviser told her that he was keeping the paper work till I drive it and was happy with the work and at that time they could complete the paper work. So I haven’t had time to call him and get it in writing but hope to keep the forum informed when I get it. I have also driven 100 miles and I have to say that the shifting pattern has changed and that the fuel mileage is back to what it was before the flash in May and haven’t had a Regen.
In closing, I don’t blame the dealer because I’ve talked to different dealers and I think it is FORD that is not giving them the information. But like TPompei: I’m getting fed up with the jerking around with not getting answers to simple questions about a two year old truck. Shame on Ford, Don’t they know that the internet and this Forum has let the cat out of the bag and that Ford should fix or at least admit the known problems. I have been lucky with only little things wrong with my truck, but had to drive an old GMC to finish my hunting trip and Ford should know that there is a reason why I’m last one to buy a Ford Superduty among my circle of friends. It’s not because they don’t love my truck, it’s because at our age we want go with the show.

I've been buying diesel from a variety of places, mostly because I'm always traveling/towing.
I don't think the dpf is clogged because the dealer did check the sensors when I brought the truck in. Since they tested normal pressures both before and after the dpf, my impression is that the filter is being cleaned.
I'm towing this weekend on a 6 hr. trip, so I'll experiment with the Ford brand cetane booster, and if there is no difference, a new air filter.
It those remedies don't work, I'll take your advice and push the dealer/Ford for a dpf replacement and/or further diagnostics.
The dealer hasn't acted poorly in this case. The tech did a good job diagnosing and testing. But I had to force the issue before they ran the diagnostics. I always need to aggressively push the dealer. I think the service advisor's main job is to talk people out of service!
I've been experimenting. Cetane booster made a slight increase in regen interval. New air filter made no real difference in regen frequency. Still getting a regen about every 70 miles.
I'm measuring the frequency on all highway driving, towing heavy, after a complete regeneration cycle.
'08 Job 1, DPF and EGR both replaced at 80k under warranty.
I got 350 miles between Regens last time...........worst is about 150 miles (all city). Haven't towed enough with it to know how often it regens when towing heavy.
To the OP, I'd say there is something wrong with your DPF filter.
