Diesel Fuel Consumption 6.4

I want to buy a Job3 F350 4x4 Lariat 6.4 Crew Cab Short Box. I don't personally know of anyone who owns one. My question is fuel mileage. What can you expect around town and on the highway unloaded. I would like to use a 3.88 rear end. Lets say 35 to 65 in town and 70 on the highway.
Also is this a truck that is as good as advertised or should I hold off for a while.

Re: Diesel Fuel Consumption 6.4

I don't have a Job 3 truck but for the truck being "good as advertised". I'd say mine is better. Comparing my old 02 stock to my 08 stock, the 08 is significantly better in every way except milage...

As for milage, if you've had a prior diesel, it will suck in comparison.. About 2 mpg less than a 7.3 or 6.0.

And I'd check into the Job 3 trucks but I think they are coming with 3.55 gears instead of the 3.73's to try to help with milage.

Re: Diesel Fuel Consumption 6.4

I was told that the Job3 is the most recent release with a bigger spoiler under the front bumper to keep the wind out from under the truck thus increasing fuel mileage. I don't know the exact date. Mabye someone else can help with that info. I was told that the 6.4 gets 12 to 13 empty.

12 to 13 empty around town is accurate for my truck.

Empty with a light foot maybe........loaded or towing, fuel sucking hog.........still a BIG improvement over the 6.0.

Re: Diesel Fuel Consumption 6.4

Mine has the large front air dam, so I dont know if it is job 3 or not. But my milage is right around 8 mpg. I do have 4.88 gears though..

Re: Diesel Fuel Consumption 6.4

Ford has published a brochure describing job 3 trucks and the only difference of any note is a vacuum brake. That will become the standard.

My understanding is the 3.73 is still an option.

Re: Diesel Fuel Consumption 6.4

Where are you seeing 8mpg? Towing? I get about 10 mpg in heavy stop and go, and about 13 on the highway at a steady 60mph, also with 4.88 pumpkins.

Re: Diesel Fuel Consumption 6.4

I'm seeing 13mpg around town, and have seen up to 17mpg on the highway with a light foot of course. I hope the mileage rises a bit more as it breaks in. I have 1900 miles on mine now. Definately puts a hurting on the wallet at the pump. I fill up when i get to about a quarter of a tank, which is usually every six days or 240/250 miles. The mpg meter starts out at 419 to a tank, and drops rapidly. I love the truck and can't wait to customize it some more!

My best towing mileage so far on my last trip - a whopping 7.6. Empty is around 12. All highway maybe 14 max at no more than 65 mph.
