Not sure if its me or not but do you guys get a little diesel smell in the cab on a cool morning letting her warm up for 3 min or so? I don't remember this in the past but recently seem to smell this a bit each morning. This is my first diesel and even though i have it for a year now may be normal and just havn't noticed it till now. Any opionions would be greatly appreciated. By the way, i just had the dealer check for the TSB on the seal of the down Y pipe and they said they could find no leaks anywhere.

Exhaust leak in engine compartment:
Some trucks may have an exhaust odor inside or exhaust smoke may be visible around the front. This could be caused by a leak at the turbo outlet from a misaligned downpipe. Verification requires disconnecting the turbo oil supply tubes (replace the banjo sealing washers, W302474) and removing the turbo heat shield to inspect. If the leak is at the turbo outlet, the downpipe will need to be repositioned to seal correctly, with a new downpipe to turbo gasket (7C3Z-6L612-B) and v-band clamp (7C3Z-5A231-AC), and new nuts for the downpipe to catalytic converter flange (W711407-S900). If properly installed, the downpipe will be 11/16" +/- 1/8" from the frame rail. TSB 07-7-7
They supposedly checked for this TSB and said it was not the problem and they could locate no leaks. So i guess my question is do most of you get a little of exhaust or diesel smell in the cab from time to time? I have some times i don't smell anything but normally (now in cool weather anyway) get a little when i warm her up for 3-5 min in the morning then jump in to take off. Maybe its normal, not sure but i just don't remember this in the past. Engine even sounds a little loader to me while towing or under heavy load. I also noticed a while back a strange type whistle or slight rattle from under hood on passanger side when you apply throttle then right when you let off the pedal quickly. Its not real loud and its short in duration but i thought could be a leak around the turbo or something. Any thoughts?

no smell in mine at all so I don't think it would be normal. Your stuff under the hood is all closed up so the only leak would be at the tail pipe which is at the other end.
I wonder if there is a sniffer out there that could be used to detect a leak?

No sure what you mean by "They supposedly checked for this TSB". Does this mean they read the TSB and said it didn't apply, or did they check the technical content of the TSB against the configuration or condition of your truck and then said it didn't apply?
As a matter of fact, i do get that faint smell of diesel exhaust when warming mine up or just idling anywhere with windows and doors closed. It is not a leak in the exhaust because i had it checked recently for a trip im about to take. In my opinion, diesel exhaust (the smell anyway) is so potent that it seems to seep through the tiniest cracks in your door/windows one way or another giving you that faint odor when sitting there, not enough to prove lethal however. If you are certain that your exhaust has no flaws, i dont see a need be concerned. As long as you keep your windows and doors closed.
I get a little diesel smell in the mornings when warming up too. I've noticed the defroster when on High to melt the ice on the windshield can suck a little diesel smell in when the wind blows the exhaust towards the front of the truck. Could it be as simple as this happening?
As for the TSB the dealer reviewed it then looked at my truck to see if it applied but said they found no sign of a leak or an issue related to this TSB. As for the smell i going to do a straight pipe underneith to see if there was an exhaust leak going up into the truck. I'll let you know how this turns out. I'm wondering if i have a bad CAT or DPF causing too much back pressure or some other issue. A tempory straight pipe to the back would remove this problem if it existed. The other thing is i've started my truck with the wind blowing away from the front and still have a little smell of exhaust. Then i opened the hood and could smell a bit as well. I don't see any smoke like some do but do have the smell. I'll post back my findings.

No smell from my vents, but if the wind is blowing rear->front, I guess it's possible. What's concerning is the part in bold... All of that would be possible with a loose connection around the downpipe or flex joints. In the cold, things contract and don't fit as tightly together. As it heats up, the swelling of the metal could be enough to seal it back up. Just a thought. I'd keep driving it, and eventually check for soot around the connections. If it's leaking... sooner or later you will see it. Hard to see the back of the engine though without a mirror and a flashlight.

I had to paint my pipes silver just to make it easier to check for exhaust leaks like around the connections. I wouldnt waste my time doing that though haha..
