Does Your 6.4L Smoke?

It was suggested in the DPF topic to question if your 6.4 smokes or not.

I have a sooty tip and noticable smoke. im at 3200 miles, no problems.

Re: Does Your 6.4L Smoke?

9500 Miles got a reflash today can't recall TSB number but definetly less smoke. tried loading it up (powerbrake 4 hi) and result was alot less smoke. Still an issue bet overfueling is less of an issue id say. Interested to see if its down on power towing no though

Re: Does Your 6.4L Smoke?

Looks as though the ratio of Smokers to Non-Smokers is 1:3 or 33%. I think this is a fair number so far by the sounds of things. Funny, in people the ratio is more like 1:5. That, too, is a shame.

Re: Does Your 6.4L Smoke?

Had a DPF ordered yesterday. ETA is mid September.

Not sure if that's a good or bad thing? Maybe Ford wasn't expecting replacements until 150,000 miles? Or, there are far too many being replaced.

Re: Does Your 6.4L Smoke?

the dealer said they didnt know when mine would be in. waranty replacement cost, $1300 and some change. stated they are on nation wide back order.

with the DPF being bad and not functioning correctly should i see an increase in mileage or a drecrease?? any ideas.

Thanks, MIKE

I'm thinking you'll see an increase in mileage (albeit probably marginal) with a cracked DPF. A cracked DPF should lower the pressure in the filter meaning less regenerations and less fuel.

Re: Does Your 6.4L Smoke?

My 250 cc long bed seems to be leveling off at around 16.2 mpg highway and 14.9 to 15.1 city. I have a little over 5,000 miles now and the last 3 or 4 tanks have been the same. I am happy with the mileage and the truck (it does smoke a little).

Re: Does Your 6.4L Smoke?

Well after3 trips to the dealer, and 10 days in the shop this last round, mine rejoins the non-smoking club.
5 injectors, and oil change, EGR, several sensors, a DPF, and some elbow grease to polish the soot from the tail pipe and we are back in business.

Hopefully it regains the power it had in its youth (less than 1800 miles). Sitting at 10250 miles now.

Re: Does Your 6.4L Smoke?

BigBird, I sure hope yours is an isolated incident. Yikes, injectors and an EGR already.

Good to see the issues are finally resolved.

Re: Does Your 6.4L Smoke?

I'm replying to move this thread back to the top. I'm still checking out 6.4 tailpipes and so far I've only seen 1 clean one in my area.
