Even another 08' ordered

My specs:

White/Gold on bottom
6.4
Auto
Sunroof
Captains Chairs
Leather
Clearance Lights and other extras.

Will be immediately fitted with:

American Racing 10"x20 Trax 8 Chromies
Toyo 37-13.5 20 MT's
and a yet to be determined 6-8" lift.
Still considering having gears changed to 4.30's (Opinions requested)
Blacked out side and rear glass
Chrome Bug Guard
Black Rhino Liner

Can you tell that this hasn't been planned out and that I'm not excited?

If you ever tow more than a rowboat, then go for the 4.30 gear ratio.

4.23 will account for only the increased diameter of the tires. You'll also need a bit shorter than 4.23 because of increased drag from a bigger tire patch, and increased aero drag from the lift and bigger tires. So 4.30 should get you close to stock performance considering all the factors.

If you never tow more than a rowboat, then I'd wait and see how you like the longer legs of the 3.73 gears with the tall tires. You can always change the gears out later down the road.

Aftermarket.

An F-250 or F-350 SRW is going to have a stock 3.73 axle ratio. Period. So if you customize the truck you might want to change the stock axle ratio. The Ford dealer can probably do it, but normally you'd use an aftermarket specialist to change the ring gear and pinion.

Re: Even another 08' ordered

I'm in the process of checking costs through both Ford and aftermarket. Aftermarket should be cheaper, but we'll see.

Re: Even another 08' ordered

Plan ahead.

Randy's Ring and Pinion is an excellent source for the parts. But right now both the 4.30 rear and the 4.30 front rings and pinions are out of stock.

Front diff =

Rear diff =

Don't order the parts unless you plan to DIY. Most diff experts won't do the job unless they sell you the parts, too. And most of those guys will charge you a lot more than Randy's price for the parts.

Re: Even another 08' ordered

I've seen gear changes done on old cars, like Chevelles, but never on a newer vehicle. Is the process any easier than it used to be? I'm not sure I'm comfortable messing with them.
