Exhaust Gas Temps? Merry Christmas!

Love this Fourm! great source of knowledge, thanks to all who take time to post and Merry Christmas to everyone. What would be dangerous level for EGT and for how long? Just replaced a sensor and the temps have stabalized but on heavy accels and hills my alert goes off over 1350 till I back off on the throttle, found code P040D replaced temp sensor "A" passenger side up tube.

A p040d code is for when you pcm reads a voltage above what it thinks it should for five seconds or more, I think 4.65v is max. I wouldn't think 1350 would be bad while pulling a hill. How is your EP, if you still have all your DPF you may be starting to clog. Or you may have wiring problems because of the code that you are getting

Thanks for the feedback. The code is gone since I replaced the sensor, it caused a lack of power at any speed but happened more often on the highway. EP? clarify, 1350 is the spike when I accelerate heavy if I back off the throttle I can get it to go below 1100 I have 51000 miles on the truck, how do you tell if the DPF is clogged?

Well the EP is Exhaust back pressure. Having a lack of power is a common problem with the code that you have, the pcm derates the engine for if its more then just a bad sensor, which it is more often the not. With 51k you should not have a clogged dpf, ford does say that the dpf should be good for 150k. i think that 1350 isn't too high for pulling a hill but i have nothing to base that off of so thats just an opinion.

I've seen 1400 for a complete normal 20 minute regen., so I would think it could hold 1350 for at least 20 minutes.

I agree, I would try to keep it below 1400 for sure and a little less than that for longer periods.

Where I work we have a small bucket truck on an 08 550 chassis. the DPF filter plugged at 51,000. The truck would not get out of it's own way, and was trying to regen all the time. The wrench light on the dash was on.
