Re: exhaust temps & grass fires

I am pretty sure the "burn off" will happen during Highway operation, not while ideling across a pasture. But I might be wrong.

Re: exhaust temps & grass fires

From what I've read (generically, not specifically about the Ford) they do go to a lot of trouble to handle situations like turning off the truck in the middle of a regen cycle, etc. So clearly they are aware of the potential for something like a grass fire.

The Ford maintenance video linked here recently mentions that it won't do regen during PTO operation. But they also talk about failure to keep the exhaust tip holes clear of mud could lead to property damage and personal injury!

Re: exhaust temps & grass fires

That is a huge concern of mine as well -- I did read somewhere that one of the other manufacturers (the one that we are not to speak of) early on in the process had programming implemented that only allowed regen cycles at speeds greater than 30mph, which is much faster than I go through pastures...

Re: exhaust temps & grass fires

I had been pondering this myself...I understand the concept behind the tips, but then I also though that what happens when they do get plugged with mud, grass, etc. for all of us who actually take them off the road? I was also curious as to why they didn't move them towards the centerline of the vehicle which would keep the rear tire(s) from throwing mud directly at the holes. Seems to me that they would still be functional. Heck, maybe they put a gate in the second turbo that will re-direct it's output into the exhaust thereby pressurizing it until there is enough force to blow the mud and debris out. This could be monitored by watching the amount of backpressure. I'm just joking on that last part, but in all seriousness, I hope for thought about this as we are and made accomidations for it. Sureyly they can't deny a person warranty coverage for mud plugging up these holes!

Later,
