Explanations needed

I haven't logged in to this forum for some time and I find I need to catch up on some abreviations.
What is this Job #2 and Job # 3 I see mentioned?
Also, what is an OSB or OSD engine?

I just took delivery of my '08 F250 srw, Lariat 4x4 and I'm interested in catching up on my reading.

Does anyone know how this DPF functions? I know some fuel is injected into the unit to "regenerate" it (ie burn it out). The question I have is how much fuel does this thing use? Is it only a pulse now and then or is it like having a nineth fuel injector running all the time?
I think the mileage gripes I see are being caused by this device wasting fuel.
I only have 300 miles on mine so I'm not even going to bother calculating my mpg until I get it broken in a bit.
Thanks

Re: Explanations needed

Congrats on the new truck.

Job 1 / 2 / 3 are different revisions of the same truck. Each new job has added available options.

The DPF captures particulates. When the filter is full, a regeneration occurs if required. Additional fuel is supplied if the current temperature of the DPF is not high enough to effectively ash the particulates. This will not occur all of the time, i.e. highway driving. Highway driving results in high exhaust temperatures therefore fuel injection is not required. Fuel is only injected if the temperature is low, i.e. stop and go city traffic in low abient temps.
