Mikey, I wonder why our mileage is so different? I have about 11,000 miles on my truck, oil changed three times, original fuel filters, both truck pretty much optioned the same. I get about 10.5mpg doing a lot of around town stop and go driving, but out on the highway traveling between 60 and 65mph using the cruise control I usually see 12.5-13.0mpg, that is hand calculated with fillups right to the top of the filler neck(damn that takes a long time). I picked up the bigger air dam today so just maybe it will give me .5-1.0 better mileage.

Huh??????? Mikey, are you trying to be funny? Filling to the neck where you can see the level is the only way to hand calculate the fuel mileage. Only filling to pump nozzle shutoff can leave the tank partially filled throwing off your numbers.

Capt, I used to fill it up to the top but the mpg would drop to 8. I have read that there is a "buffer" in the tank that doesn't really get used. Now when I fuel it, I just go until it first clicks off, then go to the nearest dollar. The last tank of fuel lasted a month and I drove approximately 315 mile (don't remember exact). The message center said I had 8 miles until empty and it took $130.00 to fill it. Working backwards that would be 33.2 gallons of fuel at $3.919 a gallon. The message center always displays between 9.4 and 9.7. Divide 315 by 33.2 and get 9.5 mpg. Now, say I squeeze in another 4 gallons, that would make it 37 gallons divided into 315 brings it down to 8.5 mpg. I am just dividing the actual fuel put back in to the miles traveled to get my mpg. Is my theory flawed? Does my truck hold 35 or 39 gallons? If it is 39 gallons then I had the 5 gallon buffer. If it is 35 gallons there is not a buffer. Capt how many miles to you get to a tank and how many gallons do you put in? FYI did you guys know if when the message center displays "50 miles to empty" you can hit info then clear (buttons) and the message center comes back with a little gas pump on the right side of the screen? Sorry for the long winded thread hi-jack
