F550 Rear Axle problem

08 F550 176" wb w/ Dana S130L rear axle.

I've been having some noise (grumbling/whining) for a while with it. The dealer is going to change out the third member assembly with part # REVISED PART #...my mistake....8c3z-4200-c

Any other F450/F550 owners with ring and pinion problems? S110 or S130 axles

Anyone know what that part # is???

Mine made a whine for the first 6,000 miles then went silent. Does your diff get hot pulling?
I removed a fuel tank on a gmc 4500 last week and the diff dang near barbucued me, spit on it and boil hot.

Don't know how hot it got.
The dealer tech drove it for a bit and said it's likely just a bad setup on the ring and pinion. I believe they're changing out the whole 3rd member and was wondering if someone can check out that part #.

It was mostly a whine when the truck was new. Most people wouldn't notice, but this isn't my first superduty or MDT. Anyway, it's developed into a kind of grumbling whirr that you can hear only when you're on the throttle. If you're coasting, no noise.

Anyone know that part #?

Complete third member showed up at the dealership today in a crate.

PN 8c3z-4200-C (looks brand spanking new)

Dealers says the cost of the part is $3800

To be installed on Wednesday.

On a side note, I've heard from two separate mechanics that it's not a matter of if your diff is going to go out, it's a matter of when. I guess there was a bad batch of axle setups by Dana.... (it's an unconfirmed rumor)

Mine does have a whine as well, at highway speeds only when on the throttle though. I have a GV installed, and wonder if I took it in they might void the warranty on the rear axle if it is bad?

we invented the internet and you get to read about what has always gone on but was not broadcast.
Service shops for the car makes that people idolize as being perfect are not lacking for work either.
