Did you spec your truck with the snow plow package option? I remember reading that with that option the fan stays engage quite a bit of the time. If indeed the fan runs continuously, I would get it into the dealer. All that fan is doing is sucking more diesel fuel out of your tank.

I have the plow package. Mine acted the same way until the weather turned cold. Then it just stayed on. They had to pull the radiator, etc. to get to the fan clutch so they could replace it.

Damned thing sounded like a tornado when it was locked up.

They cracked the plastic top radiator cover/brace when putting everything back together. Had to go back again when that part came in.

Has been fine ever since. *knock* *knock*

Later,
Jeff

I'm interested in hearing more responses to this. When I start my truck in the morning after 2 or 3 minutes the fan runs really fast. From what I understand this is to put drag on the engine to help it warm up. After it gets warm, I can hear my fan cycling up and down at idle. It never completely shuts off. I have read that this may be the "unique fan" that is part of the snow plow prep. But, I have also read other threads that seem to say that other owners have taken their trucks into the dealer for this and they have replaced the fan clutch. So just looking for more replies to this topic and see how others with snow plow prep fans run.

I had to replace the fan clutch, because the fan would come on and stay on for long periods of time

Just wanted to give an upadate, took it by the dealer and they ordered the fan and said they would call me when they could get it in/out. Well the fan seems to be doing fine now,im not gonna take it in till it happens again but its been doing fine for over a week now.

I have a post on this and I have 8200 miles on my 08 and I just had the clutch replaced on it 1200 miles ago and it is going to the shop in the morning for another one.

I have mine in the shop for this again and they said that they got an update for this clutch and that they just got the info on it Monday, so if you are having trouble there is a fix out there.
