So at the drive through yesterday my truck went into regen. I put it into to gear to move forward, and when i hit the brake the RPM's stay up high and it fought the brakes very hard.
I havent been able to replicate this, should i take it in?

I just talked about this "issue" with the diesel tech at my dealer (was in for the fuel tank recall). It has happened to me a few times (2-3 tops) but always happened when it's towards the end of the regen process. It was a bit weird to have the RPMs that high but the truck stopped just fine and the brakes were able to hold it just fine.
He told me that from what he understands, since things get extremely hot during regen, and it's ending the regen process (where temps are at the max), the truck keeps the RPMs up high so the fan spins faster than it does at idle to keep air flowing.
Anyway, I don't know how correct what he said is but, what he said he was going to do was flash my truck to the latest flash available when I take it in for the fuel tank recall next week (when the parts show up).

This is one of the tsb explanations that I got from the Dieselmann. He is a wealth of information. I would take the truck in and show it to your dealer.

Some 2008 F-Super Duty F-250-F-550 vehicles built before 7/30/2007 and equipped with the 6.4L engine may exhibit one or more of the following concerns:
Intermittent P0342 or P1336 powertrain control module (PCM) reprogram prior to normal Powertrain Controls/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Diagnostics)
Loss of stationary elevated idle control (SEIC) or battery charge protection (BCP) during power take-off (PTO) operation when body is rolled or wheels are rocked
Turbocharger bearing failure due to very cold ambient temperatures, frozen turbocharger actuator with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P132B at temperatures below freezing
Unacceptable engine idle RPM ramp rate at cold engine temperatures/cold ambient conditions in Neutral/Park with foot off Brake/Clutch
Unacceptable engine idle RPM ramp rate during diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration in Neutral/Park with foot off Brake/Clutch
Transmission upshift quality, engagement duration or feel, and shift busyness or powertrain hunting
This calibration update also includes diagnostic and malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) operation improvements for P200E, P242D and P2033. Follow normal PC/ED diagnostics for symptom or DTC identification.
This calibration also includes instrument cluster (IC) message center updates for distance to empty (DTE) reads in reverse on dual fuel tank applications, "Engine Warming" turbo protection and "Stop Safely Now" exhaust over temperature warnings. ACTION: Reprogram the PCM, Transmission Control Module (TCM), and IC (Reprogram the IC by selecting Module Reprogramming, IC) to the latest calibration using IDS release 50.7 patch 10. When reprogramming the PCM on automatic transmission equipped vehicles the TCM will also automatically be reprogrammed to the latest level.
I just got my truck out of shop, my truck was doin same high idle thing, there were 2 updates available for the computer, one of them relating to pto high idle issue, I dont know if this is normal, but, they would not hook up truck to computer unless there was a big problem or a check engine light on, luckily my check engine light was on, Im not sure what the other update was, but my truck has a lot more power now, will give update on mileage after I run it a while.

Per the below: So it sounds like there is now a 'Regen Ended' type message that lets us know when the EGTs have dropped to a safe level after regen? I asked my dealer about turning the engine off during regen, and they said don't worry about it.
I'm not so sure.

I just got my reflashed to 8-20-2 i think it is, so far the regen seemed to change when it did it the boost jumped all over and was able to hit 30 psi still didnt feel like it was pulling an ancor i thought somethine was wrong at first but pulled over stayed at idel but exsust was really hot still. took off and the boost steaded out after like 10 min, and it only droped the mpg by .7 instead of 2. and seems to have more power so i like it so far.

i'l swing by there and just talk to my ford dealer.
It wasnt the high idle that bothered me, i could feel it trying to pull forward, and literally trying to wrap the rear end up.

Stymie & Dieselgem
Mine has gone into the fast idle / regeneration three times while stopped at a stoplight, in drive, with my foot solidly on the brake. It suprised me the first time, but thanks to this forum I knew what to do. I took the truck in Tuesday to have an oil change and the PCM flashed for the problem.
Picked up the truck on Friday afternoon - when they flashed the PCM on Thursday it damaged the TCM and then they installed a new TCM on Friday.
Many thanks to Dieselgem for posting the TSB. The shop did not want to flash the PCM since there were no codes showing. I talked on the phone with the shop foreman and when he called up the TSB and read it that made all the difference.
So far so good - I'll report back later on mileage and regenerations.
Prior to the flash:
12,000 miles from 05/20/07 - 06/10/08
Towing an Equispirit receiver hitch two horse trailer, about 6000lb loaded: 10 - 11 mpg
Driving in the "sweet spot" at 65mph with no trailer or load: 16 - 17mpg
Driving at 75: 14 - 15 mpg
Driving around town in traffic: 10 - 13 mpg depending on regenerations & traffic
(All of the above per the lie-o-meter which has been within 1mpg when I hand calculate)
