First Review of 08 inTrailer Boats

Check out this review on www.trailerboats.com seems to be a really positive article on the overall package, can anyone tell me how long the bed pictured is and what model it is? Trying to decide on whether the color coordinated grill looks better than the chrome grill.

Re: First Review of 08 inTrailer Boats

I have to admit the more ironically non-Ford media pictures of the truck I see the more I think the front end looks good and fits the truck. Not sure why, but the pic's on Ford's website don't seem to do justice to it. Can't wait to see it in person.

Re: First Review of 08 inTrailer Boats

While I am happy about the write up in Trailer Boats(considering I am about to plunk down the green for a F-450 pickup), I have learned to take their product write ups for what they are. Basically paid for factory advertising, whether it be a boat, truck, marine engine or electronics. If you read the magazine much, you will quickly see that whatever product is featured in reviews are also heavily advertised throughout the magazine(guess much like any other, ie. TrailerLife). The magazine is much more filled with advertising, a few pretty girls in swimwear(always nice), and a couple of half hearted reviews. I don't recall them ever having anything bad to say about the products they review, even the most awful boats and engines.

Re: First Review of 08 inTrailer Boats

a couple things stand out in that article:

it said 156" wb, so short bed, but gave fuel capacity as 30.5 gal. glad to see the small tank grew a bit.

it also gave the curb weight as 6523#. isn't that too light? i mean, this ain't no cheby.... but i assume that number was on the door jamb?

towing mileage was pretty poor considering less than 10k# (9.4 mpg). heck, even the non-towing mileage seems low (14.2).

"gluttonous towing fuel appetite" Fuel Economy (mpg)...... "Overall towing 9.4" and this with less than 20K# GCW! My 7.3 is looking better every day.

Re: First Review of 08 inTrailer Boats

9.4 mpg towing almost 10,000lbs does not sound bad to me, especially considering the truck probably has very few miles on it. Give it 10-15,000 miles to break in and I am sure the mileage will get much better. Much like my '04 did, mine when new got about the same towing mileage as the tester, now I usually get 12mpg towing a 12,000lb fifth wheel. While the 7.3 was a well proven engine, it's towing power falls far short of the newer PowerStrokes IMHO.

Re: First Review of 08 inTrailer Boats

They do not say how many miles were on the pre-production truck at testing or I missed it in the article. With minimal mods, I have gotten nearly 12 mpg towing 26K#. True it was not towing in the rockies but it was hilly terrain and in congested interstates. I'm happy.

My manual for the 07 and my friends 06 both state 30.5 gal. My 05 manual said 29. Looks like the same tank to me. Maybe they shortend the filler tube a little from 06 and up???

oops, didn't know it had already increased....

IMO, 9.4mpg is pretty bad for less than 10k#, even new. the only think i can figure, is that they may not have had all that many actual miles during the tow portion. and if they were "seeing what it could do" for a good bit, maybe that explains 9.4.

but on the other hand, it did say they went from 8k feet to the coastline, so that would be a pretty good drive. down hill, too...

Re: First Review of 08 inTrailer Boats

I'm in no hurry to leave my 7.3L, either. On a pure 'towing' 3/4 tank over the holiday, hauling the 4 horse goose with 2 horses & tack [est. 8k towed] in mixed highly/local driving, I got just over 13 mpg. This included high speed [over 70 mph] in North Georgia/East Tennessee hills on the interstates. Thank goodness I have 'only' 150k on my truck. I'll not be truck shopping til 2010, at earliest, and hopefully the diesel truck market will give me choices that will haul 10k with at least the mileage I'm getting now [and hopefully a couple mpgs better].

Sorry for my ignorance, but I'm not familiar with that magazine. What does PSR stand for and do you by chance have a link for it?
