Aw that would be the best. Afterburner! Just too cool to be able to melt the competitions front grill as you pass. Brakes on, throttle up to MRT, watching opposing light turn yellow, move throttle into first AB detent, zone two, tension high, as your light goes green, throttle all the way to Zone 5! Let er rip! Holdback snaps, your are off and running to the market for a gallon of milk.

Re: Flames shooting out tailpipe on regeneration *DELETED*

Back in the 60's I was leaving the Princess Hamburger at the corner of Mockingbird and Abrames (I think) in Dallas. I was only a kid (don't even know if I had my license lol). I was driving my dads 67 Buick Wildcat Fastback, with the Big Boy 460cu ? with the 4 barrel.

As we left the burger stand I floored it (thats what kids do). Of course tons of raw gasoline came out the exhaust, and with the tires spinning, and with the rocks on the pavement flying, the whole street went up in flames..........I thought we had just bought our final ticket..........the flames shot across all three lanes, one car ran off the street. As soon as the street lite up in flames, it was out and over. I never floored that Buick again.

On a related note, one thing we used to do (darn kids) was splice a plug wire, attach a pigtail to it, run two plug wires back to each exhaust tip, place a spark plug inside each side of the exhaust, and watch the fun when floored.

I think this trick is still done today, perhaps with updated technology....

Ford told me about the flames at the Work Truck trade show. If they are less than 2 feet long it's normal.
I thought he was kidding, I guess not.

Have you folks looked at the heat shielding on the new exhaust - all the way back to the tail pipe. I had a chance to give one a good look over while I got my 04 serviced. Shop foreman said it was too soon to tell, but he was sure his folks were going to get a lot more burns. he said this new configuration runs in excess of 1500 degrees to burn up the soot. WOW Was he correct on tis figure. Makes me wonder what the pyro will show under full load.

The pyro won't reflect higher temperatures because most of the heat is released in and after the DOC which is post-pyro and post-turbo.

Re: Flames shooting out tailpipe on regeneration *DELETED*

My new F350 had a regeneration at 60 miles on Tuesday. The gasses out the back of the tailpipe were HOT. Can't get within three feet, burn skin, light fires HOT.

The regeneration happened as I was dropping the truck off for LineX. I told the shop to be very careful not to ignite the protective covering they put over the bed if they had to move the truck during the lineX process. Any shop using the plastic exhaust tube will get into some trouble, I bet.

The active DPF regeneration should not be happening at idle, but it is. There needs to be a dash board light warning when an active regen is happening. What if someone pulls this thing into a garage during a regen?

Re: Flames shooting out tailpipe on regeneration *DELETED*

So the little venturis in the tail pipe are not there for emissions at all. I would guess that they are as an attempt to cool the hyper-hot regen exhaust.
I wonder if the US Forest Service is going to ban this truck from the woods?

Do you actually believe that? I have the picture of flames coming from the tail-pipe submitted by one of my site's members so I know it to be true, BUT, this is anything but normal operation! According to the posts. I still view the photo with cautious belief due to the lack of clarity of the photo but everything looks consistent...

Re: Flames shooting out tailpipe on regeneration *DELETED*

Since I leave early for work and mostly drive in the dark, I will have to tilt that lower mirror down so I can see the flames when the regen happens. Hopefully it is a nice bright blue, that would be so cool. Rednecks around here are going to love it, chrome testicles hanging from the hitch, "Git er don" stickers in the rear window, train horns blasting, and now flames to light up the evening sky.
