Fluctuating Boost

I've had my new truck for 2 weeks now. I have 1100 and change on the odometer and love it so far. Here's where I insert the but. Yesterday, I was merging onto a highway with a 6000 lb. +/- trailer in tow. The drive train had a slight load on it, as I was accelerating. I wasn't gouging on it. I was at part throttle, just accelerating gradually. All of the sudden the boost started fluctuating or cycling from 10 to 20 psi. I kept the same throttle position and load for a few seconds and it continued to fluctuate like it was searching for the right boost pressure. But there was no "in between". It was going from 10 to 20 and back to 10 in about 1 second time intervals. Of course the engine rpm was varying with it and the truck was surging. Has anybody else experienced this? The only time any of my other trucks did this was when I had a SCT program in it. And it was more severe then. Will this fall under the category of "normal" when I ask the service guy about it? Any ideas what is causing it or why it's doing this?
Thanks Guys!

Re: Fluctuating Boost

I hope it isn't considered normal. If your dealer says it is normal then tell them it is normal for you to leave and go to another dealer. I don't know what it could be but I hope you get it figured out.

Mr no pluggs

Did you ever find out what was causing your problem. I had the same thing happen to me this morning. I was empty pulling a slight grade and it started fluctuating like it was looking for the right gear, but it was not shifting. my RPM was shifting from 2000 to 2500 and I didnt think to look at the boost. After the grade started to level off it shifted into drive and all was fine.

Re: Fluctuating Boost

Well this could be a fuel delivery problem or maybe the pinched wire in the high pressure fuel pump, we saw a few posts on this back about 2 months ago and they reflashed the computer but you would think that they would do that to all trucks comming off the line. Here is an older thread with the same issue Old thread and heres another thread kinda the same thing newer thread Another thread
