my wife called and booked the truck in to get them to check the exhuast and check for new updates. She asked if they would contact us if new flash came out and they said no. Trucks would only get updated if there was a problem or like us the customer insisted on them checking. They said it would be too time consuming otherwise.
I agree on their point of view to a point. Yes checking all the truck would be a waste of time but if new programing comes out then should they not know that all trucks need it unless there is a record of that truck being updated?
Seems like crap to me!
Maybe I am misunderstanding the whole update process. Any enlightenment from someone in the know would be nice.

Well I'm no authority on this, but I took my job 1 in back in December. I knew there was a new flash. I told them that I had problems with white smoke and I wanted the new flash. They did the flash without arguments. Actually I havn't had the white smoke issue since. I think you have to tell them that you have some sort of problem before they will do it.

I thought I read here somewhere that there was a flash out that caused the to display to show when the regen cycle started. Is that just wishful thinking.

Local dealer told me they only check the flash (or check for codes) if the customer complains and there's a necessity to connect the computer. Or of course I could pay for the time at $85 hr.
I have a job 2 truck and when i talked to the rep about flashes he said their have been 5 new flashes since i bought my truck. I asked him if they were good or bad(because some people have good luck or bad luck)He told me dont waste my time. that i should keep what i have. The thing i dont under stand is this pig billion dollar company does this work on new programs wouldn't it be better than the last one? Thgen at the end he said give me a call back in 6 months when the flash comes out to address fuel situation.

My truck is an XLT so it just has the 1 reset button on the computer thingy, I've never seen it. Someone said on another thread that it will flash "CLEANING DPF FILTER" for about a second. So I guess if you're not watching you'll miss it. I am getting ready to order the Edge Evolution and the manual says it has a light or alarm of some type that tells you when you're in Regen.

That's seems to be their way of thinking. I had my last 6.0L in for regular service and asked about flashing, "not till you have a problem." Well I did, they flashed it said "no charge under warranty." Then sent me a bill 2 weeks after I traded the truck in. Ways to win friends and influence people.

Just read the TSB for symptoms and repeat them to the service writer. If you mention "smoke at startup" "intermittent rough idle" or 'exhaust smells funny" I suspect they will hook it up under warranty just to cover their arses re emissions stuff.
