6.4L Power Stroke Engine and Drivetrain Discussion of the 6.4L Power Stroke diesel engine and drivetrain in the 2008 Super-Duty trucks. No gas engine discussion allowed except on transmissions and drivetrain that pertain to all models. Please confine discussion of topics in this forum to those items that are specific to the 6.4L Power Stroke engine.

Break in probably has little to do with fuel dilution. To recap my post, some fuel dilution is going to occur and should be considered normal. Your findings will vary depending on the variables I mentioned in my previous post. If you keep a log, make an extra note as to the ol level before changes and track your levels. Expect an increase in colder weather. As always, I recommend filling your crankcase to the lower end of the cross-hatched fill mark on your oil level indicator.

To take this a step further, I would guess that 1-3 quarts is normal for a 5K oil change interval from what I have seen. More than that you should consider a trip to the dealer for investigation. The common rail fuel system can leak fuel which directly affects oil dilution. Performance issues also result in more frequent DPF regenerations which also will affect fuel dilution. If your engine has a performance issue that results in over fueling, misfire due to poor fuel quality, electronic or mechanical failures this will contribute to fuel dilution greatly.
