Fuel Additives

Who's using a fuel additive and what's the best one out there? I've heard that Stanadyne is probably the best. I'm not using anything now so what are the pros and cons?

I use the Motorcraft Cetane booster and performance improver PM22A. Pro reccomended by Ford and boosts cetane should you get low cetane fuel and lubes injectors. Con none I can think of.

IMHO I agree, no problems at all. I was told I probably don't need it since I only use BP ULSD, but like 2X6 said, it lubes the injectors.

I've used Stanadyne since my first fill up. I did the same with my old 7.3 and have never had any fuel related issues. Good piece of mind I think.

I'm at 19K miles and I thought I would try this stuff too. I told the dealer when I took it in for OLF and Fuel Filters to put 2 bottles of the booster on the bill. I get in the truck and there was 2 bottles on the floorboard but less than half full. They put 18 oz in 37 gal of fuel, it didn't hurt it but regened 3 times on that tank. I have since refilled and have 200 miles on this tank with the proper strength and no regens yet.

I'm headed to St. Louis next weekend and then on to Tulsa so we will see how she does.

Does anyone know the OEM for the Motorcraft branded additive, or where to get it in larger packaging like 1 or 5 gal?

This stuff PM22A is for the 6.4L engines [PM-22-A] Motorcraft Diesel Cetane Booster and Performance Improver(PM22A)

Note: This ultra-low formulation can be used in engines required to meet 2007 emissions requirements (e.g., Ford's 6.4 L diesel engine) and is backward compatible as well (i.e., can be used in Ford's 6.9 L, 7.3 L, and 6.0 L diesel engines).
  • Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) Compliant
  • Specially formulated for diesel engines to combat the effects of poor-quality diesel fuel
  • Boosts the Cetane Rating (fuel ignitability) of diesel fuel for improved starting performance
  • Increases power
  • Smooths engine operation
  • Improves fuel economy
  • Adds lubricity to fuel to reduce engine wear

I use the Diesel Kleen/Cetane booster, my regens seem to be less frequent, maybe every 650 miles, unless I have my camper on, 265 miles. I like it and like the others there are added benefits.

Yes, that is the stuff, but the 20oz bottle is lame. I want to find it in perhaps 5gal pails.

I am using the branded stuff and I am on the 3rd tank and have not noticed any changes as far as MPG. I still get 13 mpg.

The MSDS sheet for the PM22A is rather interesting to read.

Lancelot,
I bought an 08 F250 in the summer of 07 and have 75,000 miles on her now. I religiously use MotorCraft Cetane Booster that a lot of the guys here on the forum are recommending. I get a consistant 17 mph driving around the small town I live in, but it kicks up to 19 -20 on the highway. The Ford guys highly recommend it also, and I haven't had any engine problems other than an EGR replacement to a newer designed component.
