Fuel Filters

Has anyone come up with the International equivalent for the Ford FD-4609 fuel filter kit?

I know that one of the filters, the frame mounted one is the same as the 6.0. But the one in engine compartment is larger.

Would be nice to know the cross over part number for International.

Re: Fuel Filters

It is unlikely that there will be an International part number for the correct fuel filter kit (containing Racor filters) for the 6.4L PSD. The 6.4L PSD and the International version of the 6.4L (MaxxForce 7) use completely different fuel filtration/water separation set-ups that use different fuel filter kits. International has had the fuel filter kit (with International part number) available for the International MaxxForce 7 since it started using it in International vehicles. To my knowledge, no engine International uses in its vehicles uses the same water/fuel set-up as the 6.4L PSD. So there would be no reason to have the correct kit with an International part number since it is only used on a Ford vehicle.

The same thing is also true with the 6.0L PSD and the International version of the 6.0L (VT365). They also use a different water/fuel set-up that requires different filters. The only reason 6.0L PSD owners can buy fuel filters from International is that International uses the same water/fuel set-up on the 4.5L (VT275) diesel in their vehicles. Buy a VT365 fuel filter for your 6.0L PSD and you will end up with a 7.3L fuel filter.

The only current and correct option to the Motorcraft FD-4609 fuel filter kit is the Racor PFF5550 fuel filter kit.

Re: Fuel Filters

The secondary filter (the one in question),contained in the FD-4609 kit does have an International part number on it. When I gave it to our parts manager to research, he found that even though the part number is in our system, it is available only in a set. Then, when you attempt to order the set by part number, it comes up as a restricted item. At this point it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why. After a few phone calls, he told me that at some point it would be available. Somewhere along the line, chances are pretty good Fleetguard will jump onto the wagon with their own part number too.

What you just said there acually puts things in perspective. I do not doubt that you will eventually be able to get the 6.4L PSD fuel filters at a International dealer, but I would almost bet they cost atleast as much as buying from the Ford dealer.

There was some talk recently about some people going to buy fuel filters for the 6.0L PSD at the International dealer using part number 1847170C93, only to be told that they are for International use only and if it is for Ford use that they should be using fuel filter kit 1843059C92. I have been told that the only obvious differences between the two kits are the part numbers and one costing about $70.00 more than the other.

As far as Fleetguard and all the others, I agree and am sure that they will be available sooner rather than later.

The difference in cost, once the part number is established, should be more than enough to encourage folks to buy from International vs. Ford. Once our parts guys see that part number and get a price I will post it.

Now as far as the part number difference on the filters, I can't say until I talk to our parts people. I do know however that all my former 6.0's and those 6.0's used by the guys I work with all used the SAME part number be it a Ford or International application. There was NO difference. In all probablilty someone didn't know what they were talking about as happens quite often on this site.

Re: Fuel Filters

Just as I thought. Those numbers are the same part. One number is superceeded by the other.
