It had been some time since I have posted. It is good to know you all are still here!
I test drove an '08 last week and I am seriously considering one. It was a crewcab King Ranch and the thing drove like some luxury cars that I have owned in the past.
The main thing that concerns me about the truck in the fuel mileage. The truck had about 40 miles on the odometer and the computer calculated 7.0 miles-per-gallon. Is this all the truck sees? I have seen numerous posts about this and my current truck is problem free; I just want a new one. My current truck gets about 17.0 on the highway.
Realistically, what can I expect? I saw in a magazine about the same mileage that members of TDS report. Thanks for your replies. Craig.

Well that's about right somewhere around 10-12 mpg but there are aftermarket stuff out there but ford is being a bunch of knuckle heads about aftermarket add-ons so if you want to improve mpg you will have to go head and throw out the warrenty as well.

If you're worried about fuel economy, its not the truck for you.

From what I understand, a person can have the programming changed in the engine control computer that does away with the regen feature for the diesel particulate filter. This brings mileage up to comparable with the 6.0 liter engine. But, as you say, the warranty gets thrown out as well. I didn't see a signature, 'daddy, but it looks like you have one from the picture, so, you should know. Thanks for your reply, Craig.

Well I can get 13-13.5 if I keep around 60 mph, about 2000 rpm. Any faster it drops like a rock. Towing 11000 between 5.6-6.7 at the same speed. It's a great truck, but the mileage is terrible. Sometimes I still wish I had my 06 Dodge, ran great with alot better mileage, but not half as nice as this Ford!
i get average about 15-16 depending on how much city i do. that is doing about 50-50 mix driving. granted i only have 2wheel drive its not terrible in my book. i have about 23000 miles so its well broke in. the first 5000 miles was averageing around 13mpg.
I get around 13-13.5 driving 60mph, and that is with a truck that weighs about a thousand pounds more than a 350DRW, and when towing a 12k fifth wheel rv, I usually see 9.5-10.5mpg. Wonder why your 350 is seeing less? If you saw 7mpg on the truck at the dealers, many factors have to be considered. Maybe an idiot took it out on a "test" drive and beat the crap out of it, or maybe it was shutdown during a regeneration of the DPF? I am very grateful that I ordered my truck, watched it being unloaded from the carrier and besides the delivery driver and the dealer's diesel mechanic, I am the only other driver, bought it with 3 miles on the odometer. If fuel mileage is your main concern with a heavy duty diesel pickup, forget any of the current emission compliant trucks. Look for a 2007 6.0PSD or a nice Chevy/GMC Duramax of the same year.

Capt,
Any of the situations you mention is possible. Remember, that is on the lie-o-meter, so, I don't put much faith in it. I didn't put a pencil to it like I should have, so, I guess it is possible that an idiot took it out before I did.(The truck had been sitting for sometime; I had been watching it on the lot at the dealership for months and when I took it for a test drive there was so much dust on the windshield that I used the wipers to clear it.)
And no, fuel mileage isn't really a concern I just posted to get the feel for the mileage. I remember sometime back that members of TDS had posted several threads concerning fuel mileage and I was just wondering if it was as bad as some say. My current truck gets 17.0 empty and 12.0 loaded with my gooseneck trailer and tractor.
I just want a crew cab so, my passengers can sit comfortably. I wish I had gotten a crew cab to start with. Thanks for your replies. Craig.

Yea these trucks are nice and I love my truck I have 08 250 but to improve on the mpg you break warranty so basically comes down to what do you want more do you want your warranty or do you want better MPG?
My Service Truck is an '08 F-550 with 4.88's weighing in @ 16,000lbs...all highway...avg. 6.5mpg @ 65m.p.h...........b4...my 6.0 got 9......and my old 7.3l was gettin 12....sad, the newer they are....the more they suck..lol
At least these post have been accurate so far with the mileage. Someone soon will post how great theirs is with something like 16-20 in the city and 20-25 on the highway. It never fails when the honest people are getting lower numbers and then few are getting outrageous numbers their can't be any truth to them.
my truck just turned 17k while on a fishing trip. i was pretty surprised, i got 16.8 going out (356miles) and 17.1 coming home. that was with stock wheels and tires and keeping the boost under 10psi as much as possible and keeping the truck a 68 mph. and i did check it on the calculator on my cell and it was a tenth lower.

I can't tell much from the picture, but, the truck looks new with a brush guard on it. Yes, they are very handsome. I guess I just need to get over the mileage issue and move on. Thanks for your reply. Craig.

X2. I've had MY relatives take MY vehicles and get much better mileage than I have EVER gotten with my own vehicles. Like you say, outrageous numbers that couldn't be true. I think my question has been answered. Thanks for your reply. Craig.
