I'm telling you guys, you need to get your trucks into the dealership to get the new PCM flash (TSB 08-13-2 or 08-13-3 for newer builds).

After the flash, I topped off the tank. Since then we've filled up our work truck 3 times so far (34 gallons a piece) and our hand calc for the three fillups are 15.2, 15.0, and 14.9mpg. This is a F250 reg cab with toolboxes/ladderrack and auto tranny 3.73 open axle. And yes I drive like a grandma...

All winter long we averaged 11.6... driving like a grandma. All our driving is city/hilly terrain. Lots of trips up slow windy roads to our tower sites. We are very impressed with the latest results. BTW, the dash cpu is dead on with our hand calc.

Just last week the service manager called my cell asking if I noticed a MPG increase with the latest flash. It was weird, because all I mentioned when I brought it in was that I had idle regeneration concerns (which by the way they flashed for free because of my "valid concern". The manager told me that he had heard rumors that this flash increased MPG... and I was still the only truck that his dealership had flashed so far.

Bobby C... tnx for your input on the new flash. I called the local dealer today and setup an appointment for Wed afternoon. I didn't ask if they charge for it as in my mind it's a warranty thing under emissions but will make sure before I hand over the keys. The service rep said they have done a few already. If they want to charge after my concern of almost ramming a car while parking in a regen, then I'll take the also scheduled 10,000 mile oil, filter, fuel filters and wheel rotation somewhere else. Again tnx for the report and I wonder how others are making out with the TSB 08-13-3?

The tsb for the regen surging/fighting the brakes was 07-17-3. It was that PCM flash that we got last sept 07 that gave us the 11.6mpg average all winter... brand new the truck was getting 13.5.

Make sure that the dealership knows that this new TSB supersedes 07-17-3.

I'd hate to see you get the PCM flash included in 07-17-3 and end up with even worse mpg.

Yep I asked if they had the new one, the TSB 08-13-3 and he said yes. I have a printout of it and will ask to show it to the Diesel Tech just to be sure. Mines a Job 2 so I should of had the 07-17-0 done already. Tnx for the heads-up!!

Ron... the TSB 80-13-3 is an updated program for the on board computer (PCM) and a Ford tech has to do it. Job 1, Job 2 and Job 3 specify a time frame when a 2008 6.4L was built. As the truck developed, different features were added or improved on so Ford came up with the term "Job" to distinguish which Super Duty truck had what. I'm not sure if they will continue with Job 4 with a 2009. If you search this forum you will find more info.

Thumbs up The diesel eater

LOOK, I just installed diablo tuner, dpf cat delete, airraid intake and airbAGS. I GET 8-10MPG WITH A 30K LOAD TO THE 5TH WHEEL. BUT WITH NO LOAD I GOT 15-20MPG BETWEEN 60 AND 65. BUT IF YOU WANT TO SEE A BIG CHANGE GO TO THE 4.11 GEARS OR THE AUX DIFF THE YOU CAN CHANGE WHILE DRIVING FROM 4.88 TO 4.11 AT A PUSH OF A BUTTON. THATS MY NEXT INVESTMENT.
I currently have 2008 f450 kingrance 4.88 gears awd. 500hp 950tr////// dont forget about hho soon to be installed and b-100 running next week //////

15-20mpg at 60-65 with an F450 and 4.88 rear end? Umm, are you SURE about that?

I'm pretty sure it's a load of poo. I got 6.1 Lie-O-Meter at 32,000 GCVW and I suspect it'll be a bit worse today at about 35,000. The best I've seen at 60-65 empty is about 11-12. Mine's a stock 450 with 4.88 gears.

That's about what I get with the F350 and 3.73 gears; and I didn't spend all the $$$$$ on modifications. Also, with my Cat & DPF intact, I still have a warranty!

Update... Just had the PCM flashed to the TSB 08-13-3 during a scheduled service appointment under warranty. The SM gave me a fact sheet about the TSB 08-13-3 to be kept in the glove box. Will give it a few tankfuls to see if there's any difference in mpg. Power seems to be the same but I haven't driven it enough for a regen so can't report on any difference there. It finished a regen, including when idling, just before I took it in. Time will tell!

2008 F250 4x4 6.4L Diesel
Job 3 DOM: 3/3/2008
Crew Cab
6' Box
3.55 differential
18" wheels
Motorcraft 5w-40w Full Synthetic Oil

In Town Only: 12.5 - 13.5 mpg
Blended Driving: 13.5 - 16 mpg
All Highway 60 to 65mph: 19 - 21mpg

I am satisfied with my all highway mileage but on the 6.4l with DPF, it appears the stop and go driving cuts more into MPG than the 6.0l did.
