fueling issue on hard acceleration? smoke/slipping

Not sure if I am alone here on this but couldn't find anyone with the same exact issue. Just hit 10k miles and developed an issue after a 400 mile drive this weekend. Truck is a 350 supercab 5sp auto with 3.73 gears (not sure what job or how to tell?) I ran 400 miles with no load in the rain at night and it first happened when trying to pass a big rig up a hill. As I rolled into it and then put it to the floor the truck started to spool like it was going to launch then just fell on its face and shuddered/slipped till i let off then reapplied less throttle. It did it over and over again but only when I really get into the throttle. If you slow roll the whole way it doesn't do it, only when it has to drop a gear or two and take off. The next day with no rain and sunny it did it again and this time i noticed it blowing white clouds out the back?!?! Originally I thought the tranny was gone as it just felt like it was slipping but after seeing the smoke i am not thinking fueling issue? I took it the the dealer today and of course they couldn't get it to do it. They said its probably a regen which I know its not. Why would it regen only when i stomp on it, then stop when i let off? I am headed back tomorrow to take the diesel guy for a ride. Any insight into this? anyone heard of a similar issue? Trucks been fine besides this, no check engine lights or anything unusual.
Thanks josh

How do you KNOW it's not a regen? Some PSD's don't have any visual indicators to tell you that it's an a regen.

I had some of the same issues on my return trip from eastern Canada pulling the 5er.Runs fine with no sign of power loss untill you gun it hard up a grade or passing a slow semi. The boost would jump up at first then it would seem to stumble then boost up and take off like a scared rabbit. This was also during fairly heavy rain and I have read that the filter gets wet easily and restricts air flow.I am also at the recommended 16000km(Canadian EH) fuel filter change so I will do that before I take it in.The problem is I will never be able to recreate this problem without 5er in tow and a good long hill.

That reminds me of some guys here complaining of the same thing during winter (minus the white smoke) in a snow storm.

Apparently the placement of the air inlet to the filter is a poor design so things like rain and snow can build up in the filter. In the case of the guys here Ford had some sort of ugly grille guard to allow air to pass through and block water/snow. So it's a know issue. I'm going to try and see if I can dig it up.

Haven't checked my manual but are you certain the fuel filter interval is 16000kms? I just had mine in at 26,000 kms and my dealer said the interval is 25,000 kms.

Found it.... not sure if it applies to rain but it definitely applies to snow conditions.

The service interval for other than normal driving, which includes towing is 8000km for oil/filter and 16000km for fuel filters according to diesel supplement. This is also the first fuel filter change as I only had 1000km on the odo when I left for my east coast trip.Put 15000kms on in 5 weeks and fueling at many different places so who knows what quality of fuel.

I do the 8K oil changes. Good thing for that Stanadyne, my filters looked new when I changed them yesterday.
