Fueling While Running

I know it's kind of a dumb question, but with all the electronics on this beast I was wondering if fueling while the engine is running causes the check engine light to come on. I know some vehicles that don't have their fuel caps on properly will throw a code, so I wasn't sure if the same applies to these trucks. Yeah, yeah I know that it's a "safety risk" but it's getting colder here and I'd sure like to keep the heat going when it gets really cold.

-Jason </div></div>Only Gas vehicles will throw a code if the Gas cap is not on Properly,it does not apply to Diesels,so It should not be a problem.

Re: Fueling While Running

The only issue you might run into is that the gauge may take awhile to come up to "FULL" (it is called Anti-Slosh mode and may take up to 55 mins for the needle to rise). I experienced this once when I first purchased my truck (thought my gauge wasn't working), then as I drove down the road for about 30 mins, the gauge slowly started to come up. I checked at work and found that this is normal. From then on I filled the truck up with key in the off position so the gauge will respond instantly when I start the truck up.

Re: Fueling While Running

Did it a few times on my 01. Fuel gauge would read low until the next key off/on sequence. One time the truck went into limp mode so I pulled over, turned the truck off, restarted, and truck ran fine. Haven't tried it on the new 08.

Re: Fueling While Running

I believe it is a state law to turn cars off when refueling. I have seem numerous signs posted at the pumps that state that. Dont let a smokie see you doing that when they make their run in the store for the daily donuts and coffee.

Re: Fueling While Running

This applies more to gasoline burners than diesels. Having said that, though, there are several states that have enacted legislation to limit idling for pollution reasons.
