I was looking at an '08 on ebay.... its an fx4 model..... there is a photo of the dash that shows "155 miles to E". I wasn't aware that the fx4 model offered this, I thought that only the lariat did that. Can someone confirm this for me please?

They have one its in the dash. The trip reset button does all kinds of this like list engine hours and systems check also. Just no ambient temp or compass heading like the lariat has.

Right, my understanding is that it's "trip computer lite" though I'm sure they have some fancy marketing name for it.

yes they have average mpg, distance to empty, 2 trip meters, system check and an hour meter. The only thing missing from the lariats' is the autolamp config and language selection.
To get the compass and ambient temp features back in an FX4, you could always buy the "Auto Dimming Compass Mirror" with temp display for upwards of $350. Ouch. But that would give you all 3 features missing; dimming, compass, temp.

(you have to add "temp display" from the style menu for an extra $109)

Exactly what I did. But I found mine for $200 NIB on fleEbay. Donnelly makes it, the one Ford sells is a Gentex model. Both are OEM suppliers (Gentex supplies the GM rear views). Anyway I love it...here's a pic for you.
BTW: I got the model w/the maplight which are pretty much useless with the big cab on our trucks. Save the 30 bucks.
Nice, thanks for the pics Dozer_Fan.
Do the Ford or aftermarket units require a lot of install? Not that it would be difficult, but I'm curious if the trucks have the harness already built in and tucked away, or do you need to run power wires and a temp sensor?
My truck is on order & have never owned an SD before, so pardon the question.
