Got a new Cam Angle Sensor (plus great service!)

I arrived home from Augusta, Georgia today at the end of a 7000 mile trip around the U.S.

Last night while driving around town my CEL came on. I pulled into an Advance Auto parts and had them pull the codes. It was a Cam Angle Sensor Low Voltage (Input).

I had him clear it hoping it was a glitch.

15 minutes later the CEL was on again. I went to another auto part store and had them pull the codes. It was Sensor A Low Voltage (Input).

I had him clear the code also.

At this point, I knew I was not driving home the next morning (today).

15 minutes later, the CEL was on again.

I took the truck into Bobby Jones Ford in Augusta. I arrived at 8am and told the Assistant Service Manager what the problem was and that I was supposed to go home today. He told me that he would put a rush on it.

I waited at the dealership being I had no way to leave. They had the truck fixed, tested and back in my possession in just over 3 hours. New Cam Angle Sensor fixed the issue. Drove the remaining 500 miles home with no further problems.

This is my 2nd issue with the truck, but this repair was much smoother than the last one.

If you need service done in the Augusta area, I recommend them.

(For record sake, this was a total of $121.xx repair. It was covered under warranty, but that seemed really cheap to me.)

Re: Got a new Cam Angle Sensor (plus great service!)

Wow, 7,000 miles. I haven't rolled over 700 yet. Did you happen to see where this sensor is located, back of engine? An adventerous trip for sure. I have looked at that crossover coolant tube a couple of times, thinking what you went through. The day I picked up our 450, while it was being cleaned up, I wondered over to the diesel truck service area and shot the breeze with two of the trusted techs there. They both told me they have had only very minor issues with the 6.4's, and this dealer has sold a lot of work XL's. When you get a chance, I would like to hear about your fuel mileage and towing ability during your "tour". So far, by my calculations and the computer readout, I am averaging right at 11mpg, town/highway driving with one known regen. Gawd, I love this truck.

Re: Got a new Cam Angle Sensor (plus great service!)

I am at 10,500 miles total so far. I really wanted to know what the truck would do. I have a thread going in the towing section that lists my MPG.

I posted this just to see if others have had a CAS issue. I did not see where it was located.
