6.4L Power Stroke Engine and DrivetrainDiscussion of the 6.4L Power Stroke diesel engine and drivetrain in the 2008 Super-Duty trucks. No gas engine discussion allowed except on transmissions and drivetrain that pertain to all models. Please confine discussion of topics in this forum to those items that are specific to the 6.4L Power Stroke engine.
I read alot of posts on the improvements on these new trucks, and I didn't think this truck would be this much better than my '05. It is. My last truck was a dinosaur compared to this thing. Noise level, handling and ride are out of this world. This thing drives like a luxury car- I wouldn't even know I was in a truck, except I can still see over the roof of a minivan when sitting next to it at a traffic light.

Congrats on another Super Duty, It's always nice to see someone that keeps buying them, it only made my choice to buy one easier.
I picked my first Super Duty (F350 PSD) up last Friday and started putting all the info I learned on this site to use. This is my first diesel, so it's going to be a real learning curve for me.
I'm curious to know how you like the 6.4L 6 speed setup. Seems like you would be able to give some great input since you have driven every 6 speed combo ford's given us. I'm a die hard stick shift guy and can't find a 6 speeder to test drive. And I'm going to be a 6.4 owner here in not to much time...so tell me it's great!

It is great. The tranny is a little difficult right now, but so were the other two. They break in quickly, and are smooth as can be when they do. The twin turbo setup does a fine job addressing the turbo lag issue with the 6.0. I have not used the granny gear on the new truck at all.

I too had a 2005 which I really enjoyed. I put about 36,000 miles on it in two years. I only have 1,000 miles on the '08 but it is an awesome truck. By the way, I thought the '05 awesome too except for the oil leak. Little touches like power extend/stow mirrors, Sirius radio, 20in wheels really make this the best truck I have ever owned. The engine is great and the lack of turbo lag over the '05 is very welcome. I am still trying to figure out if I like the brakes better on the '05 or the '08. I have the vacuum brakes and they seem like they take much more force than I remember on the '05. I haven't pulled my trailer yet, but think I may go get it and pull it around just for the fun of it. I promise not to complain about the milage.
